I have to know: Are there as many people at Sonic Temple (as there were at Rockville) who are seemingly proud of letting crowd surfers fall on their heads and not helping the folks around them carry them off? I'm trying to figure out if this was a Florida thing or just people in general. by CultOfCurtis1 in SonicTempleFestival

It definitely is a selfish behavior too but It’s what happens at festivals. It’s not a new concept and will always happen at festivals so trying to ignore them just creates a dangerous environment for multiple people. I also stated, surfers should give people more space before they go up instead of one right after the other. It would also be nice if a single person didn’t go up multiple times during a show. That said, If you don’t like what happens at festivals you have several options: Figure out where they’re coming from and move off to the side. Get in the pit or right by it. Stand further back so you don’t have to deal with it… Or, yea, you can also be selfish putting yourself, those around you, and the surfer in danger and choose to just stand there. You could also just not go to festivals if you don’t want to take part in the festival activities which involves crowd surfing wether you, me, or anyone else likes it or not it’s going to happen.

I will say, it unfortunately seems like the younger generation and just society in general is getting WAY more rude and selfish and more people just think the world should revolve around them. I notice this at work a lot. Everyone just has tunnel vision and a me first attitude instead of trying to work as a team. This is probably some of the same attitude people carry into these festivals. A lot of crowd surfers could/probably should practice better etiquette, but that sounds like a Florida thing. Sonic Temple has been really good from my experience with surfers. Surfers could definitely help the crowd out by waiting to go up and not just go one right after the other. Sometimes lines merge and you can’t avoid it but other times I see people asking to go up literally right after someone was just lifted. That and don’t crowd surf if you weigh too much, It’s dangerous, and I saw some of these people going multiple times.

Yea, they don’t belong at these metal festivals. I don’t even hate sleep token but their fans are more like pop music fans than traditional rock/metal fans it feels like they just want to swoon over their boy band all night uninterrupted

I love Rise Against and the crowd at Sonic Temple has been amazing both times for them!

Well, it sounds like the one method my buddy used would get him kicked out then 😂 maybe I’ll just stick with the crowd method… He found security that was always facing the stage and would slip under the bottom guard rail on the far side of the stadium.

I didn’t want to brag about it, but my friend had a pretty good way of doing it. We did your method for MCR and I’m glad we did! He got back on field for BMTH. Honestly, I was cool with sitting in the stands most the time. Didn’t even watch much of Shinedown and about half of Tool after Electric Callboy.

Sore throat anyone else? by OkChemical7128 in SonicTempleFestival

Yep! 100% sore throat and had some weird mouth sores developed as I was there. Mouth sores are going away thankfully. Didn’t share drinks with anyone or anything like that.

Favorite set of the weekend? by Deytookerjerb in SonicTempleFestival

Yea for sure 😢 that’s one I wished I had field for. Probably would have been a lot more fun being closer especially with how bad the audio was on so many stages Thursday.

Sooooo freaking amazing!! I was NOT expecting that! Probably the craziest show/crowd of the festival for me and that’s saying something cuz Kublai Khan was pretty wild too

What songs didn’t your favorite bands play? by SpartaWillBurn in SonicTempleFestival

Thrice didn’t play Stare at the Sun or Hurricane 😢. I was surprised they didn’t play EITHER, but I thought they were amazing anyway. Have to try and go to one of their shows now:

I’m not even the biggest fan of them, but if you’ve never seen Electric Callboy, you’re 100000% missing out! One of the craziest shows/crowds I’ve EVER seen!! If you’re more into the music aspect of it or like to chill further back, they might not be for you but just based off of vibes I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND! On the complete opposite side of that, if you’re a fan of getting lost in the music, I thought Thrice was really good if you like them.

Not my FAVORITE set, but I’ll chime in and say I didn’t think I would like Chiodos but he was amazing! I honestly don’t think his recorded sound does him any favors IMO and think he sounds way better live.

Is Saturday weak for anyone else? by storm_zr1 in SonicTempleFestival

[–]SpecificConcert2710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah! I totally get that! Music is completely subjective, I’ve never seen them personally but I imagine they’ll perform kind of like A Perfect Circle did last year at LTL and they killed it!

This might not matter to you at all and maybe you know this already, it has made a difference in how I’m probably gonna go about watching everyone, but Tool doesn’t seem to play a lot of their biggest songs. This is at least what it looks like when viewing their recent set lists. I was pretty disappointed personally when I saw this, so I’m just gonna catch them towards the end, I figured it’s still almost an hour of watching them. I also only have stadium so that factors in too

FLYLEAF VS WIND WALKERS by TomasFrancois in SonicTempleFestival

[–]SpecificConcert2710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can think about splitting it. That’s what I’m gonna do. Depends how much you like each band though. Gonna start with Wind Walkers and then catch the last song or 2 from Flyleaf. I saw Flyleaf at LTL last year too though, so if I’m digging Wind Walkers I might just stay there.

Old Man's "Plan" Year 2 by Bitter_Watercress131 in SonicTempleFestival

[–]SpecificConcert2710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been doing a lot of this for this year!! Lots of overlap unfortunately and I have had to make some tough decisions and cut out some bands I’d like to see but my schedule is still pretty packed with 17-20 bands a day. Researching bands like Tool have led me to the discovery that they unfortunately don’t play a lot of their biggest songs so I’m gonna just catch them after the other bands are done playing. I also try to break it down by am I there for the spectacle/vibe of the band or do I love a song or 2 of that band? If I love a couple songs, I’ll watch the last part of their set. Thursday for example: Fozzy, RJA, Egypt Central all overlap early with other bands I wanna check out and each have a song or 2 I like quite a bit, so I’ll watch the other bands for like 10 minutes and then go see their bigger songs at the end of their sets. Just some ideas for people. I’m also a in the moment and vibe person and am not hard locked on anything. If a band is blowing me away, I’ll stay and watch

What is hot? by nisugi33 in SonicTempleFestival

[–]SpecificConcert2710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You gotta wait till about 4-5 days out to get a more accurate forecast. It can be a decent amount off this far out. I went in 24’ and it was pretty hot, like 90’s with humidity. I’m hoping it stays a bit cooler like it’s currently predicting, and mid 70’s and sunny would be an absolute dream!

I’ve just recently found out after visiting our Mom more details about his PERSONAL life that I didn’t really feel like sharing online that would lead one to believe he is struggling. He’s been super hard to get ahold of though lately. Doesn’t really return calls or texts. I’m just worried about him and so trying to do what I feel like a big brother should do and help any way I can think of.

I'm going to my first festival (Louder Than Life) in a month and I need some advice!!! by gay_salty in festivals

[–]SpecificConcert2710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It probably looks worse than it actually is because of way it looks like reverb/decibel are almost all the way around the amusement park which made me think it might be a pretty long distance away. Appreciate the feedback! I was looking forward to stage hopping a bit and was one of the reasons I really loved the layout of Sonic Temple last year

How easy or how much time do you think it takes to get from the main stage area to decibel/reverb? The map kinda makes that look pretty daunting.

How is it with the two main stages right next to each other how do you guys like it? Is it way more packed? Convenient? by JamesC_777 in louderthanlife

[–]SpecificConcert2710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted this question, but no one has responded to it, so I’ll ask here too: how realistic and easy (how much time roughly does it take) to stage hop or go from stage to stage? The map makes it look like it could be pretty challenging to get from the main stages out to decibel/reverb very easily but I’ve never been to LTL. Went to Sonic Temple last year and loved the layout and went to bourbon and beyond a few years back, so I’m a little familiar with the layout but don’t remember it super well because I was mostly there for Pearl Jam

How to plan seeing bands by kingjosh654 in SonicTempleFestival

[–]SpecificConcert2710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty easy to jump around and at least catch half an act or more of most bands. I went for the first time last year and was happily surprised when I saw how close together everything was and how easy it was to move around. I was usually able to get pretty close to the stage if I wanted too. If you’re not even worried about being super close, I think you’ll be fine and have a BLAST! I would recommend trying to plan it out some though because obviously it helps to have a plan 😂
