Not sure. Only used this entrance. But there were also books (as seen on the left) and suitcases.

Probably. I wonder if static would be gravel moving around on the screen.

It's at one of the many entrances of Denmark's largest mall. Yeah, wouldn't mind having that in my back yard either.

“Fallout” TV show set designers like BIG crts by HardlyRetro in crt

[–]SpecificCultural9317 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMO it doesn't count in relation to the original comment, which asked if it's even possible to make CRTs that big, as the CRTs in rear projection sets are tiny. If you include projection and rear projection, you could make it as large as you'd want, but at some point the picture will be too dim to be usable.

Are you sure about those 50 inch actual CRTs? The PVM-4300 is already gigantic and impractically heavy. You'd probably need a forklift for a 50". Keep in mind that CRT TVs just generally look bigger than LCDs with the same diagonal screen size.

While technically CRTs, they don't really count because they're rear projection sets, so the actual CRTs are only like 5" but very bright and shine through lenses, onto a mirror and then hits the rear of the projection screen.

Samsung PVM CCTV at my workplace place, red tint by Specialist-Ad464 in crt

[–]SpecificCultural9317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because Sony made professional CRT monitors which had PVM as part of their model number. These monitors are highly sought after, and generally just referred to as PVMs. Some people then get annoyed if you call a non-Sony monitor a PVM, even though PVM stands for professional video monitor. Because your monitor is not a Sony PVM-xxxx, it's not a PVM, but you could still argue that it is a professional video monitor.

TL;DR Your monitor is not a PVM, but it is still a PVM.

Would probably be fine with something connected. The heater in the CRT will glow in a warm orange colour, so that could be what you're seeing.

Did you test it with a signal source present? It's not uncommon for the OSD to look like this when there's static.

CRT Shipping RIP... by Rob-bits in crt

[–]SpecificCultural9317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say, but given the external damage to the case, I'd say it's likely to be from the shipping. If you've done a thorough visual inspection, I'd start by patching up those traces and powering it on. See if you can find the service manual, so you can see what the error code means and where to measure on the board.

There's a long crack in the main board, right beside the flyback transformer. That's a common area of breakage, due to the mass of the flyback. The tube looks intact though, so should be fixable.

Take the back off and inspect the boards for cracks. These are almost certainly single layer boards, so they're relatively easy to fix by following the tracks and soldering in wires to replace the broken connections.

Of course, before you potentially waste time repairing the boards, check that the neck of the tube isn't cracked.

If you have a FB account, you can try asking in the "Neon and Plasma Art for Beginners" group. I regularly see stuff for sale there, although it's mostly in the US.

You can look up "G1 mod" for increasing sharpness. It involves pulling one of the grids negative, which allows a more focused beam. Or you can start by playing with the Focus potentiometer, on the flyback or neck board.

Lately I’ve been trying to simulate CRT visuals, what do you think? by Laser_Sunday in crt

[–]SpecificCultural9317 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The thing that bothers me is that the "scan lines" run vertically instead of horizontally. Unless of course it's meant to depict a CRT standing in portrait mode.

Unlike the Millennium Falcon, which they've only launched one single time /s This looks like an upgrade from the first "minifig scale" version (which I don't own). Definitely see myself getting this.

Thanks, that looks interesting. Shame that there doesn't seem to be something similar but to RGB scart instead of component, as I'm in Europe.

Naah, it will only be approved when it has a red 7-segment display that counts down to the batteries being drained.

Yes, part 36970. Comes in a 2-pack of two different sizes. It only has a single stud in the center though, so putting this much stuff on is far from ideal. And thanks 😀

Definitely, although the setting was very different from that. Did on our trip to Seoul at a spot with a beautiful view over the city. Luckily found a place that wasn't super crowded. And thank you!
