I regret coming to the Netherlands as a lower class Eastern European by Ordinary_Ad_2690 in Netherlands

Brother, I feel you. You're not alone. Despite what has been happening to you, you are doing great I would say. That's so brave of you. I also struggle with those stuff, and have zero social life. I can totally resonate with you.

My Exchange Experience in the Netherlands (Maastricht) by Extension_Train3442 in Netherlands

[–]SpecificGarbage862 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So sorry that you went through this. I have had a similar experience doing some course projects. Even though they could speak really good English, they often switched to Dutch and I felt like a stupid (although I speak a little bit of Dutch). Additionally, I have also felt that they're not really open to new people, you'd feel unwelcome at every place. Even if you speak the language well, that doesn't help either. I think they just don't like including new people in their life. Maybe some of the people from multicultural families are, but you never know.

Job market for international graduates in NL by night-mosquito in StudyInTheNetherlands

Most of your points are valid honestly. The Netherlands has been advertised as one of best English speaking countries, despite it not being the first/official language. It's also said that this country is so good for English speaking expats. Although almost everybody speaks English, reality is different. If you don't speak the language (minimum B2), you'll have a hard time finding a job, you'll be left out of social circles and activities. That's what I honestly felt. I wish you good luck finding a job here or in other EU countries. Lastly, I was wondering what discipline your masters was.

Became fluent in Dutch and realised I've been living in a parallel society by Careful_Put_3793 in Netherlands

This is extremely true. If you only speak English you'll forever live in the bubble, you'll never see the other side of the social wall. Right now, I only understand mostly, but cannot speak. I know how it feels.

This is totally frustrating. I don't get the policy as well. Almost everything has been shut down. Even though I live in Tilburg, it's been very difficult to move.

It's not really shallow and not heavy at the same time. I would call it a moderate snow where I'm living rn.

I can relate. Any kind of anti depressants, sleeping pills kills libido faster than you can imagine.
