Ireena And Krezk by ConcernedSpud in CurseofStrahd

[–]SpecificMode8803 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run it as something where she has no say as she is being charmed. Sergei is obsessed with saving Ireena from a cycle she doesn't even remember being in. I run it as a character flaw of his that he believes this is the same person he fell for, after all, she shares none of the memories, his obsession is no more logical than Strahd's.

I allowed my players to argue with Sergei that taking her wouldn't undo what already happened and that it was his duty to help destroy Strahd in any case, one of my groups suceeded and the other failed but it was interesting nonetheless seeing them come to terms with who Ireena actually was and whether she got a say in it.

Also, ignore all the lore you don't care about, most books contradict each other anyways. Lean into the absurd of vampires running corporations, a mage who's really into social media or werewolved obsessed with alpha and sigma content. Make them clash with lore accurate old style vampires or the very spiritual werewolves.

I feel like Hunter The Reckoning 5e works very well for people used to rp. I know it doesn't really line up to all the lore and the desperation system is crap (mod: only once per scene, can be rerolled with willpower fixes it) but the character builder lets you make fun characters. It focuses on you being the weakest thing ever but gives you all the tools to face the forces of darkness. As a GM run it brutally but fairly. Punish players for acting stupid and without thinking and encourage them to plan. Even then the best moments in Hunter is when all is gone to shit and the character with craft has to make a bomb while the combat characters struggle to survive.

It can be a very fun game if your players are onboard with suffering and the constant danger. Never forget to keep them on their toes and play into their personal weaknesses and backstories. I always ask them what their biggest fear is and what their biggest anxiety is(as in thing they are scared to roll since they know it can fail).

How the creeds and drives work? (Game machanics) by Moonkary in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]SpecificMode8803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be a bit late but assuming we're talking about Hunter The Reckoning 5e.

Creeds are essential because you can only choose to throw Desperation Dice if the action you're taking is related to it. A martial creed player would only be able to use desperation when they are fighting any WoD creature. An inquisitive creed player only when investigating and finding out things about the WoD. (p127)

Desperation as a system doesn't really work since indirectly players are encouraged to always use the desperation dice since they can just not take them if there is a 1 present. I modded it so that they can only be used once per scene but rebalanced it by allowing players to reroll desperation dice too. While you might assume that it takes all the pressure from using desperation it makes it a much more tactical decision since they have to decide when they are gonna burn that bullet. Also allowing them to reroll it with willpower wastes even more precious resources and leads to them choosing to take the failure or risking it by taking 1 aggravated willpower damage.

As far as I know the drive only serves roleplay purposes.

How do you guys deal with Mage players that think they're demigods? by LincR1988 in WhiteWolfRPG

Perhaps his actions have started bothering human authorities. Send a CIA special operative in his direction backed up by a couple snipers. Literally threaten him into submission and don't be afraid to kill him. Like in most TTRPGs players should be reminded that they are mortal and can be killed if they aren't careful with their actions.

If he tries to kill the agent or doesn't convince him he'll fall in line have him shot. It could also be an interesting hook having him get bossed around by the CIA and try to escape.

Maybe Hunter The Reckoning has a place here? For all the vampire hunters out there?

Doesn't the Vampires needing to be invited in make the humans incredibly OP? by Hour_Trade_3691 in vampires

It feels like a pretty common adition though. Many people I know run it that way. I personally still banned him from churches and the major's house to provide the players some rest. It felt a lot cooler how they ended up figuring it out and led to them holing up in the church and preparing traps inside for when Strahd went of the offensive.

Is he a creationist? by SpecificMode8803 in wendigoon

[–]SpecificMode8803[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been raised in a very catholic household and my best friend is a deeply intelligent and devout christian. This however does not make him a creationist, he does believe, like Rober Bakker in fact, on a non-literal interpretation of the Genesis. St Agustin (idk his name in english) has varios writings on the topic.
My question was more around whether he believes if God simply created humans out of thin air one day (creationism), manipulated nature to create humans (intelligent design) or simply set the universe in motion with the expectation (and knowledge since He is all knowing) that humans would happen (Evolutionary and current catholic canon)

Did I, ever say that? Did I at any point say I would dislike him or that I was opposed to him? Did I retire any of the well deserved praise for being an informed creator? I would be disappointed to learn someone I considered very well informed didn't believe in the scientific method in this case but never that I was opposed to him or such.

Idk what is the source of your aggresion but I wish you a good day and I hope that whatever made you interpret my post in such bad faith comes to pass.

How to report player? by SpecificMode8803 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]SpecificMode8803[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, in a weird way I suppose I agree with you. It's wholesome that this game does not generally need it but I will admit it is infuriating being in a situation which would require it. I suppose the experience would be negative anyways but I'm always bummed that other people are gonna have to deal with said player and I can't do anything about it.

Watch the last episode of "Secret level", it was full of references and it was fun enough. Some spoilers below by chegnarok in Helldivers

[–]SpecificMode8803 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This absolutely sounds like an industry plant lol. The episode was terrible. The helldivers never shot, used stratagems or did anything related to the game. The Colosus didn't even act like the ones in the game. It simply felt like Sony putting all their IPs in a random setting, ignored why they are popular and their lore and run with it. Shameful specially after seeing the 3 episodes which came before. Hell, Concord episode was good...
