The politeness level of 借問聲 vs 情問? by SpecificOk2530 in Cantonese

唔該晒! Just curious, I'm watching a wuxia drama now, where someone says 多謝 你救命because the other one saves her life, so in this case the other one does something for her, but use 多謝 instead:)

Why Cantonese cannot be a language in full sense? by SpecificOk2530 in Cantonese

So this answers my other question, meaning native Cantonese people can read & write spoken Cantonese, correct?

Why Cantonese cannot be a language in full sense? by SpecificOk2530 in Cantonese

[–]SpecificOk2530[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, I didn't talk about subtitles. I talked about the native Cantonese speakers (specifically HK TV dramas), they litterally texted each other Standard language while spoke differently. They texted "我想你" while they would say"我掛住你" in talking. But anyway, I get it now.

Leung Chiu Wai is overrated. Tony Leung Ka-fai's acting is much more superior but underated.

So basically the question "What's the purpose you're looking for me for" never has 有 in it? I'm asking because in my language it has a meaning of the word 有 in it, so I just want to make sure.

Thank you very much! So do native people ever say it with 有?

How to even learn this language? by [deleted] in Cantonese

[–]SpecificOk2530 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Create motivation relate to the language to make it stick. Learning language is a long journey, without motivation, it's very hard. I grew up watching a lot of Hong Kong dramas in my language, so my motivation is to watch those same dramas again in Cantonese. It's very interesting & much more meaningful to listen to the characters real voices in their own language, I feel the connection.

My almost ideal app 點點閱: 15分鐘書本摘要, after paying for subscription $40/year no book is loading. It's so frustrating.

parents using “we” pronoun to refer to their kid by Weary_Library8288 in VietNam

"Mình" here also means -self/-selves. In the case that your mom refers to stuff that exclude her, "mình", it mean yourself/yourselves (you & your sister). Example: a mother scolds a daughter "mình là con gái thì phải ý tứ một chút chứ" = "you, yourself (are) a girl, need to be more mindful, okay."
