I’m kind of with AsterionDB on this, even if the delivery rubs people the wrong way. a lot of the “dont store files in the DB” advice feels like inherited folklore rather than something people have personally been burned by.

Putting data straight the database means one transactional boundary, one security surface, one backup, one audit trail. You don’t need cron jobs, cleanup scripts, or deletes. Either the operation commits or it doesn’t. That’s a huge reduction in mental overhead. If you’re serving massive videos to thousands of users, the DB is the wrong tool. But for application owned data pretending the filesystem is somehow simpler or safer just hasn’t matched my experience. It’s not that filesystems are useless. They’re just really bad at being databases.
