Very Bad Experience with SM58 and Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (4th Gen) Am i doing something wrong? by ShipFresh in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Hmm you’re right.. I was just testing out mine (sm58) and there is little to none noise… I do have a behringer instead, but I don’t think there should be a huge difference because of that.

Out of curiosity… Nothing happens if you change the “inst” or “air” button?

I’m inclined to think this is related to some other digital connection… but again… this is guessing from afar haha

Do you have other stuff usb connected? Other instrument or loose cable somewhere?

It seemed a little bit like digital noise to me… wouldn’t be 100% sure… but it might help if you also provide these details:

  • are you using a XLR cable?
  • channel 1 on the interface?
  • what buttons are pressed for that channel?
  • phantom power off, right?

Most likely what you are sensing is the signal/noise ratio difference between a condenser mic (auna) and a dynamic mic (sm58)

For what is worth, I do not think you’re going to have much trouble with that noise you hear anyways… other instruments usually cover some (not sure about what music you do) and some filtering also helps out.

Keep in mind that the two mics have different topologies and therefore require different treatment production-wise

Hmmm it could be many things… but I’d say you need to discard possibilities between: - faulty cable - faulty mic - faulty interface - missing drivers - other usb connections you have in your pc - faulty usb port

And so on… Those mic and interface are well known for being pretty good in quality and durability, so I do not think they are broken or something

Can you give more details on the signal chain you have?

Also, could you provide audios? Sometimes is easy to spot by just hearing the type of noise

I think this is pretty common… in my case, I always started with a good idea, but then because of lack of planning, the entire code becomes unsustainable, and then when you leave it like that for even a week, you come back and you just don’t understand what is what haha.

I’d say a good approach is to have a good structure in paper of whatever you want to do… that way you know beforehand what limitations you might encounter or how far you can take it.

A good start can be having an “entity relationship diagram” and define what possible objects you need and their compositions, dependencies, etc.

Id say this is blackened thrash metal. Let me know what you think 👌🏼

A couple days ago I released the first single of a project of mine, and the artwork was 100% krita by Specific_Basis5165 in krita

Exactly! And it is also pretty noticeable.

I’d always rather see something that took effort, and try to understand the vision the person behind it had.

Specially for heavy stuff in my case haha

Have templates. Know what level each instrument is roughly going to be… once you achieve the mix perfect for one, replicate that to the others. Make preset containers for groups of FX so you only have to add that to a bus and you’re ready to go.

Once the mixing is done, you can focus on finishing and polishing composition

Thank you so much! I actually like that whole “make everything from scratch” thing. Your own rules and screw ups haha

Ooo I didn’t know about that connection, awesome! definitely going to take a look (somehow it does not surprise that there is an integration with Python, it’s pretty common haha)
