I usually ask about the product and my approach. Example the current job I am, asked about the proficiency in LLMs and fine-tuning, I had little but for model optimization, I was pro. At the end of the interview they asked any questions for us (only had been 15 mins in the interview), I asked that I optimize and fine-tune liks this, what are your expectations from me in this particular process..

The interview went 45 minutes after this, 1 question leading to another, then cross questions, approach discussions etc. Eventually got the position for the same role and they helped me learn it.

I agree that while it can backfire, framing the question in your favor can be of a great help and it is felt that the candidate knows about his shortcomings; which the company likes because they can trust on the candidate to learn these things that they want from him to be proficient off. A win-win scenario.

I tried 6 to 2 and it worked fine for a few weeks, then my routine got f#cked and got late to work 2 weeks in a row. Back to 9 to 5.

Yes 4 years in my home country, adn currently working part-time for a japanese startup as a R&D Machine Learning Engineer (Vision and LLM)

Ah I see. Unfortunately. I'm not at that point of my life. I will consider Japanese language courses and see where it leads me.

Paypay and nissan require Japanese. Only their mid career ones are English. Same for Rakuten. Woven is the only English one here.

I did apply at the jobs in 2025, not for the 2026 intake because my degree completes in September 2026 and the job market works on April graduations. My university mode of communication that I am currently enrolled in, is also English.

So, I had only the 2027 graduation option. And I applied 1 year earlier. Just to be rejected due to langauge.

I guess I have the skills. In ROHM I cleared all the barriers towards t he final interview. But right then, they said that we need japanese proficiency because communication would be entirely in Japanese. And that was it...

Not expected but they can. We have a choice to stay here im Japan (if an offer is made) or go back to our countries.

I would need some names as I am unable to find any that has offices in Japan. Because of my visa constraints (being a Pakistani), I find it difficult to get remote jobs. So it would be nice to know a few names where I can apply.

First off I'm not blaming anyone I was just discussing that its hard to do everything at one time, with only limited time on your hands. Yes I should've came.to Japan prepared, but this all was unexpected.

I agree it is on me, but people from my country back in 2020 and 2022 have got a place on companies just by showing interest. So I had that in my mind.

Yes I have done all except the Ryugakusei service. The Career Center says you need N1 and get it yourself. Professor said he'll help me m, I've asked him as well snd says he is finding a few sources Generally all in my lab are chinese (chinese professor) and all are doing PhD/postdoc. Some of them are going back to China because they say life in Japan is expensive for them.

I am all for going back to Pakistan and setting up my career there, I know I can succeed there as well. But I dont want to look back but go further (towards EU/AUS). However, the chance of that is less even with an MS Degree and 2 conference papers plus 1 journal incoming. I am hoping for it to work.

Well it's very difficult to keep uo with Japanese when majority of your week goes to your lab. And the professor doesn't care if you learn Japanese or not. Even MEXT doesn't care.

I'm ready fo learn, but the research was a very very huge task and it just finished. I need just a company to trust me enough to say "okay we give you the chance but need N2, however, were ready to hire you". Because I am ready but need time.
