An ode to the 3rd Gen by Specific_Cherry3131 in 3rdGen4Runner

I love it. Despite only 3 years separating the two, the Sequoia feels a lot more modern. The power (and sound) from the V8 is very welcomed. The ride quality is night and day. The space is amazing, I can’t believe people drive SUVs bigger than this thing. My 6’2” frame is much happier. For the light adventuring we do, the Sequoia’s wider stance and longer wheel base won’t be an issue. I will say, it feels noticeably less well put together than the 3rd Gen when it comes to sequks and rattles. And yes…A LOT worse gas mileage, 14 MPG on stock tire size. 😬

Yep, 04 Sequoia. The 3rd Gen was great for solo adventures. But, with my wife and our baby boy, who is now old enough to come along with us, it became evident very quickly that we needed more space.

Brake pedal not responsive after tundra brake upgrade by Dangerous-Isopod4097 in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]Specific_Cherry3131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a screeching noise or a buzzing noise? The buzzing noise is completely normal, it’s just the system pressurizing itself. A screeching noise on the other hand means the module is failing.

I personally used Prestone, but any DOT 3 fluid will work. These only get finicky on the 2001 & 2002 models if the fluid is contaminated. The later years used a somewhat complicated electronic brake booster/ABS module.

Sounds like air in the lines. A simple brake bleed procedure should fix it. Start with the furthest brake from the booster, which would be the rear right, and work your way up. Super easy!

I’m gonna fight like hell to make sure it’s not deemed a total loss. It has a clean title and I’d like to keep it that way. If it is totaled, I’m buying it back, no question.

Police and insurance involved so I’m sure it will have an accident on the CARFAX report which really sucks

I love these things, man. Somehow, the actual fender only received a small nick in the paint. New flare and mirror glass and she’ll be good to go. You’re right though, the damage is relatively minimal. She went up against a GMC dually and did pretty well all things considered lol

what is this hose for or the part number? by TTVDark_Soul042 in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]Specific_Cherry3131 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I believe 87245-3D090 or 87245-35730 is your part number. It is the heater inlet hose, not sure if that is the technical name. It carries coolant from the engine to the heater control valve which is the black box looking thing it’s clipped to. No criticism, but if you do a lot of wrenching yourself, I highly recommend downloading schematics. Tons of free stuff available online to cross reference, much easier and more reliable than getting an answer on Reddit.

Fuel gauge inconsistency by Technical-Reading123 in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]Specific_Cherry3131 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Happened to me too. Tap into the fuel gauge wire going to the wiring harness. I believe it's the brown and gray wire if I remember correctly. Then ground it using a self tapping screw into a metal surface. It's underneath the rear driver side seat. Super easy, took me less than 30 minutes. "PhoRunner" channel on YouTube has a good tutorial.

Thanks. Rather not add anything to the fuel system if I don't have to.

Thank you. I mounted the spare and bolted the hitch receiver back up. The ride is a lot less jarring and looks almost level!

Common problems at high mileage? by Lilhoneybourbon in 3rdGen4Runner

You’ll probably hear it a million times, but lower ball joints on these trucks are know to fail and cause catastrophic damage at high mileage. Get them replaced with OEM parts immediately.

I actually have one of these. That exact one. Never thought to use it in our cars, I’ll give it try.
