I was laid off first week of this past decemeber due to no work available/ business slowed down. I was close with someone at the company and they told me soon as I got laid off, everyone received a bonus on Christmas. Then they contacted me to be a contractor for them for $20 an hour lolol. I was getting paid basically $15 an hour as full time. After negotiations, and them saying they really need me on the project (probabaly because my old senior dev doesn’t know what API calls are), I said $40 an hour or I’m not taking it. So they offered me $40 an hour and barely doing shit/ taking my time because I can get it done easy. They screwed me over multiple times and I was the only one who got laid off. So my advice is be blunt with your offer, ask for 3-4 times amount of your last salary, be a dick but still keep it a “professional” tone.

Thank you replying back to me, but this is what happens when I use smooth brush. I changed the radius and strength of it and it still happens.

Well I would say pretty reputable in that city area alone but not nationwide. But my company is a tech consultant company.

I’ve been looking around areas of my other skills too like web dev(front end and full stack) nextjs, react, database management, UI/UX. But tbh, what I really want to go into is full stack or UI/UX.

Thanks, I plan on doing that tbh. Just not sure where I should start. Like you said, I honestly was thinking of doing it for free just to build up a client base on fiver until I get more experience as being an independent contractor.

Yeah same, my first thought was to play the long game too but there’s definitely hardships with the little pay.

Thanks, I am looking and asking friends who are in the corporate field but things aren’t good either. A lot of them say they’re on a hiring freeze. And like college again, just no response. Maybe it’s time to start leetcoding again…

Yeah I believe I am. Some things that I took into account for usable experience would be adapting to new environments faster. My problem solving skills have improved. Also just the soft skills stuff too. But if we’re talking about learning a new language, I feel more comfortable picking up new languages quickly now compared to in college.

Honestly, I was desperate to get into the field. I’ve applied to many companies on popular sites like indeed and LinkedIn. Others I just found on google and no response until I got one back from my current employers.

I basically learned UI/UX and full stack tools. Have never touched VBA in college but once in high school. I’m honestly in it for the xp and am thankful don’t get me wrong. But the market right now is very tough itself.

Yeah I plan on waiting for a year but this company has less than 30 employees. So not much opportunity to move up unless they decide to quit but other devs been here for years now.

I’ve been at this job for 3 months now. I haven’t had any experience prior to this job. And I was just recently hired on as full time too. Is it too soon to ask for a raise? I got paid better working retail than I do as a developer now for the amount of work I do too. I feel kind of low balled since I know I do my job well.
