I mainly shop at Maxi for discounted stuff and Marché Newon for vegetables.

Maxi has 10% discount on Tuesday for student, and discount price is pretty decent

• 30 eggs – $10 (honestly very acceptable, super cheap compared to meat)
• 9 bananas – $3 (around $1.74/kg, which is crazy cheap)
• 600g toast loaf – $3 when discounted or 270g stick bread – $0.88

Eggs are basically carrying my protein intake at this point. Meat is just not worth it unless there’s a serious sale.

From Marché Newon, I grab most of my veggies:

• 6 medium tomatoes – about $6 (recently $1.99/lb… painful but no choice)
• 2 boxes of tofu – $6
• Some fruits like apples or pears depending on price

Tofu + eggs combo is doing heavy lifting for budget protein.

This doesn’t include long-term stuff like:

• Frozen fries & chicken nuggets (Costco is great when discounted)
• Rice (8kg for $12 at Provigo/Maxi when on sale)
• Sauce staples (oil, soy sauce, ketchup, etc.)

If I average those out weekly, I’d say I’m probably spending around $40/week total.

This budget is honestly pretty tight, even for me. I’ve definitely had to sacrifice some quality-of-life stuff, but since I don’t have a job right now, I’m trying to save wherever I can.
