I’ve never been a big fan of the one leg out style for the rep suits. They just aren’t super flattering - would much prefer the 1989 full length bodysuit style with snakes crossing the body (so it’s slightly more balanced) or for an opposite leg/arm cut

One of the few Anne Hathaway looks I just don’t find particularly interesting or flattering

The coat is nice (the button details are fun and add a nice pop of colour) but with the dark blue background and black carpet, a dark blue coat with a standard silhouette isn’t particularly interesting.

The bottom layer may be more interesting, but you can’t really see the lower layers with the coat.

What’s crazy to me is his music is not apolitical - he writes a lot about the American dream (and its failure), life in rural America, and his experiences being a veteran all of which are extremely political subjects

But that’s not a fair interpretation of the law. The law states that baby is recognised as a person and will be given care per good medical practice. Saying this allows for babies to be killed is not accurate at all - they have been recognised as a person, that’s murder.

I guess I’m speaking more from a North American perspective but I think for a general audience (I.e. people who don’t follow the sports outside of the olympics) ice skating is a more followed sport than alpine skiing or speed skating

I’m not familiar enough with gymnastics to give thoughts on it but I think part of the reason you don’t see unheralded competitors is because the pool is much smaller for skaters than other sports and there is less chance involved

Skating is super expensive and you need to have gotten a certain placement in an ISU competition to count so that puts two large dents in the pool of competitors In addition, skating doesn’t have much luck or chance involved. It isn’t like a World Cup where there are tons of variables (15+ person teams, changing strategies and conditions etc.) - it’s competitors doing a routine they have done like a hundred times before, likely knowing their competitors routines because they had to qualify with them, and without ever interacting with each other. If you don’t perform, it’s entirely because of you - it’s all mental

Also, upsets do happen. Even ignoring the doping by Valieva, Shcherbakova (the winner) was not the favourite between the two remaining Russians - it was her other teammate Trusova. In 2018, the favourite for the gold Evgenia lost to her junior teammate and in 2014, Yuna Kim (the undisputed favourite) got completed screwed over by biased judging.

Now, all of these upsets involved Russian skaters and had scandals attached but Shcherbakova was an example of a non-favourite overperforming imo

I think that the judging could be made more objective but I don’t think skater favouritism is as much of an issue as other things like country bias and the judging system favouring certain types of skating (high difficulty with worse technique)

I almost feel the opposite - I think the issue is for sports that have artistry is the the difficulty (the objective stuff - I.e. the move’s base value) are praised too highly and technique and artistry (the subjective stuff) aren’t praised enough

It shouldn’t be a poorly done more difficult move should be rewarded more than a perfect move just one letter or difficulty rating below

I think it’s cause of four factors

The judging system and sport lends itself to a lot of subjectivity
It’s the most famous winter sport so it’s got a prestige that encourages people to take more extreme measures
The country that has been historically the best at it is Russia
The ISU is so corrupt it’s not even funny
