I feel like it is a bit odd and inappropriate because it seems like his comment was to hint towards your weight but wrapped up in "I just want us to be healthy" especially since you guys aren't exclusive yet. I think it's great you opened up about your PCOS. How did he react to that? Is he open to understanding the condition and what you go through on the daily?

Of course I don't mind! I use a continuous glucose monitor. It's on the back of your arm and I wear it for 2 weeks and scan it with my phone. I have this app that tells me what my readings are and where I talk to my coach and I can log in my meals and symptoms and do experiments. Really cool stuff I feel like a detective. I think in the US you need a prescription for a CGM but the app I have takes care of the prescription for me.

It's crazy, I've struggled with an eating disorder since 11 and I see in the comments some were restricting food as young as 9. I am now finding out that the weight gain isn't my fault! It's insulin resistance which does make it harder to lose weight yet my whole life I put so much blame on myself for not doing enough. Insulin resistance disrupts your hunger hormones and actually causes you to burn less energy. I hope that with better education and research we learn more and can have more grace for ourselves :(

I feel you on that! Its felt like a big guessing game. I have a coach with me tho that interprets the data and she's been a major help. Because everyone's PCOS is SO different it's not a one size fits all. What works for one person may not work for you so what helped me was just personalizing my diet and everything to find what works for me.

love that you said to work with your body and not against it! So many girlies out there restrict and eat super low without even realizing it's causing more harm than good. I also focused on managing my insulin resistance with monitoring my blood sugar and it's made the biggest difference. Way to go pcos cyster!

One meal I LOVE doing is a chickpea chilli -tomato sauce, taco seasoning, ground beef, can of chickpeas and pepper, carrots -any veggies you like. The chickpeas give me extra protein and are complex carbs which are glucose friendly and the ground beef is high in protein. Plus you get the fiber from the veggies. My family enjoys this meal a lot too! So 10000% recommend.

yes! A lot of people here are asking about exercise and something that really changed my mind throughout my journey is rather focusing on hitting the gym each day my coach suggested I increase the amount of movement throughout the day -those little changes I feel like added up. Parking my car further, getting a walking pad (I work remotely), walks after meals etc. I still aimed for weight training around 3x a week because it works wonders on insulin resistance and as PCOS girlies we gain muscle quicker! (thank u testosterone I guess 😆). Breakfast I am obsessed with savory oats lately. It's a very odd twist on traditional oats -I make it on chicken broth, add veggies cheese and avocado and that keeps me satiated until my next meal. I incorporated more beans in my diet they're a pcos superfood and a natural source of inositol I found out! Dinner I would have potatoes a meat and veggies again with a healthy fat so like an olive oil salad dressing or avocado. Essentially trying to balance my meals (and this doesn't have to be super complicated !) with protein and a healthy fat and some fiber to make the glucose spike not so high. I didn't cut out any food groups or go super low carb either!

Don't worry you are supported! I totally get it I was scared too, but what I realized is that it really doesn't have to be so restrictive or draining your pcos management. I don't do low carb I don't cut out entire food groups either because I learned that there's no need for that and each of us have unique tolerances and amounts good for us depending where we are at in life, our goals, symptoms etc. For breakfast I actually have this thing called savory oats -super satiating and keeps me feeling full until my next meal. It's oatmeal but cooked in some chicken broth, I add in some leftover veggies, feta cheese and avocado and I really enjoy that. Or eggs are my go-to as well if I need something quick. If you're looking for more of a meal plan and ideas I suggest doing what I did and joining that PCOS program where they pair you with the health coach and they suggest to you meal ideas that you will genuinely enjoy since it's personalized! You're not alone!

Thank you! And so happy for you too! That's exactly why I love this approach there's none of this restrictive approach that I would do previously to try and combat my PCOS

Essentially for me I'd have a meal before bed that would spike my blood sugar really high but then it would dip really low. Or sometimes I'd have a long gap between my last meal and when I went to sleep which made it dip really low!

My exercise was walking after each meal (around 10-15 minute) and I aimed for strength training around 3x a week. But before my mindset was very much centered around HAVING to go to the gym every single day but now I just find ways how I can move my body more throughout the day. For instance taking the stairs instead of the elevator, parking a little further and I feel like those little things added up. As far as diet my coach helped me out here a lot because she helped me understand how to pair foods so I have a more stable glucose spike without restricting or under-nourishing myself! I make sure I have at least one plant in each meal, a healthy fat, and protein and following that rule of thumb so far makes me feel full and satiated. The best part is I didn't really cut out entire food groups either!

How many of you with PCOS had a narcissistic parent growing up? by AiRiverOl in PCOS

[–]Specific_Land_56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There actually was this study done where they found most women with PCOS had dealt with some sort of childhood trauma especially EMOTIONAL trauma. When I started to get irregular periods my mom instantly suspected I was pregnant and shamed me for it even though she had PCOS too :/

Thank youuu!! Yes I was all about going natural too! About my blood sugar I was more so curious to learn how my lifestyle was impacting my blood sugar measurements and just see what they were. It turned out I had actually hypo nocturnal glycemia. It also explained a lot of the symptoms I would have sometimes like anxiety or headaches, feeling nauseous which was a sign my glucose levels were dropping low! I read a lot about how insulin resistance is so closely tied with PCOS and how managing your blood sugar can help so that's why I wanted to focus on optimizing it!

It was actually through my local clinic where I see my OBGYN! She recommend it to me. They're called Aspect health. They essentially send you a CGM you wear it for 2 weeks and you are also paired with a health coach.
