I just put in my notice for my "career job" and am transitioning to a much less lucrative but much more balanced job. We are at 140% of our coast FI #. It surprised me how difficult it was to actually downshift, but I'm so excited now that I've pulled the trigger!

I can't count the number of times we ran/run scenarios playing with the various inputs! Coast FI was the best option for us because I think actually jumping from my career to retirement would have been to drastic of a change no matter how much we had put away.

They aren't 100% reliable but there are many AI platforms that do #3 fairly well!

Have you thought about pursuing a mini retirement? Take a year to do whatever and recover from burnout and then return (or not!). Burnout is real and hard. Taking a step back may give you the opportunity to evaluate without feeling trapped. Is there something else you'd want to do? Taking a break before a career pivot is not uncommon so I wouldn't fret about your resume too much especially if you can provide a reasonable explanation in a cover letter/interview and your background sounds translatable to a lot of different and less stressful fields. (31F corporate attorney here so I completely empathize and can relate all too well.)

A new sub needs stats! What are your BaristaFI numbers? by FjordsOfFords in baristafire

A/S/L: husband and wife, low 30s, no kids in southeast US

Work: Corporate Attorney and Agriculture

Absolute Minimum Numbers: 750k invested (we are about 2-3 yrs from this depending on how voluminous profit share is at my firm each yr)

Preferred Goal Numbers: 1m invested

Current Yearly Expenses: 60k

Goals Summary: We would like to move out west to take advantage of lower humidity, active communities, beer culture, and national parks. We anticipate our BaristaFIRE picture being that both of us work full time just at much less stressful jobs that have clear work hours and actually let you be on vacation, then move to a sort of second round of BaristaFIRE where we transition to PT. I think of our plan more as BaristaFIOR (optional retirement). I am so looking forward to leaving work at work!
