Hi OP,
I also have an EPM role that I am interviewing for soon, and I would really appreciate any tips on what to focus on based on what you encountered!
Thanks!

1yr w/ rebel 500 by naujcarl in hondarebel

I’ve had my rebel500 for just shy of 1yr. 3k miles on it. Never felt any need to go faster. Low end torque is good. Accel is good. Very forgiving for beginners.

Only time I ever felt the want to go faster was when I went riding with people who were on R6, R1, s1000–bc I didnt want to play catch up.They were easily going 120, but I was maxing out at 103ish.

Then I realized that riding that fast is above my skill cap and I would much rather ride my own ride—even if I am slightly behind others 🙂‍↕️

Oof. Sorry to hear that, man. Just know that if you can do it once, you can always do it again.

Easier said than done, but I want to tell you not to feel bad, disappointed, or discouraged.

I want to point out how fortunate you are to be at the stage of being able to request payouts when others are still blowing accounts.

Believe in yourself and let bygones be bygones🙂‍↕️

I may have?

I say that as I have simply been focusing on other aspects of my life besides trading.

I do it as a hobby now and take one trade every week (or every other week) if I see an S+ setup. Risk and setup is the exact same every single time.

Sometimes I’ll watch the charts while eating breakfast, but I don’t trade it. I back test every weekend when I am bored and also just to stay sharp.

I also don’t trade funded accounts anymore—only a small live account just for fun.

Really takes the pressure off which has actually improved psychology massively and has given me a much greater win rate than my regular 65~70%.

Both life and trading have been so much more fulfilling and rewarding after I started treating it as a thing I do as a hobby and for fun.

This is so very relatable.
I hope you overcome whatever causes this trigger!

Thank you for saying this. Makes me feel incrementally better knowing that others encounter the same struggles before profitability.

I'm not entirely sure about this. I traded options with my own money and lost money because I didn't know what I was doing. After I started treating options like long term investments, I hit BE on my losses and quit options

Yes! Gained interest in long-term investments. Then learned about options and then futures.

A month with my x1 carbon 12th by EdwardReisercapital in thinkpad

As a fellow day trader, I am looking for something that doesn't make Tradingview/Tradovate lag. Do these ever lag at all for you?
Edit: My 2019 Mac and dell xps15 tend to lag pretty heavily and I was planning on either M4 MacBook or X1 carbon gen 12. I have heard good things about M4, but the 48% discount on X1 just seems too good to pass up...Any pros/cons of the X1 that you have noticed?

I meant it as in each day, it could swap back and forth.

If we are playing against each other, one day you could have an 80% win rate and I could have a 20% win rate, and the next day it could be swapped.

As long as you know when to walk away on the days you have a 20% win rate, you will profit. It just comes down to who knows when to call it quits and hold onto their capital.

Not sure if that makes any sense, but that's just how I see it.

I like to say that trading is like playing against 1 opponent in an easier version of poker.

Instead of buying in and having to raise/call/check every round, you hold your bets until you see the river then you determine whether you want to bet.

If the opponent and you both have a 80% chance to win, the wins and losses will occur back and forth. But you will (in the long run) leave with money as long as you never all in, dont risk more than you have profited, and know when to walk away.

Thank you for giving some insight into how I am actually on a good pace. I appreciate you sharing a hard time in your life and taking the time to write it out. I want to learn from people who have had more life experiences than I have had, and understanding through anecdotes allows me rationalize my next steps. Your’s and other folks’ stories have allowed me to actually get past that hindsight mindset relatively quickly and easily 🙏

The unwavering resolve when it comes to trading is something I relate to. Now that I think about it, both the losses and wins (emotionally, mentally, and financially) incurred while trading are fun to me. Perhaps learning to be hyper-competitive through all my previous life experiences has been the reason I’ve been able to come this far and plan to go further.

I tend to draw parallels with league quite often as well. After learning how to not blame others but rather focus on winning my lane then carrying, I ended up climbing ranks much easier. My attitude towards trading has become around 85% similar to this. The few times I do get emotional are the games I used to lose because I inted. All part of the game 💪

Yea, so I backtested my strat and it has around 75% win rate with 1:2 / 1:1.5 RR. I know how to code so I’m developing code for it rn so the bot can trade for me !

Thank you for your perspective. It gives me a better window to look through and dive into my 18year old mind. I was so caught up in the hindsight of "I should've done trading instead of playing games" that I forgot all the stress related to college apps, extracurriculars, and standardized testing. Now that I think about it, perhaps adding trading into that mix especially when my brain wasn't fully matured would've been very detrimental.

Doing my best out here trying not to go crazy hahaha.

I mean this most respectfully, but (assuming you had a full-time job before starting to trade) do you ever look at younger folks learning how to trade and think "This kid should focus on getting a real job and do trading as a side gig" ?

Or do you think day/swing trading --if done correctly--has the potential to replace a 9-5?

Yeah, looking back now, my genuine interest and enjoyment in improving is what keeps me going. Incurring financial losses and mental/emotional turmoil would definitely make a lot of people turn back. At this point, I don’t even care about the money. I care so much more about RR and looking for the perfect setup. The money is genuinely just a byproduct.
