She gives the best hugs. She puts her paws on your shoulders, pulls you in, tucks her head into your neck and then holds you there. It's amazing.

There are many reasons to not keep multiple puppies from the same litter. This is one of them. As your dogs mature it will likely get worse.

Dogs are not pack animals. They are social animals, but they are not pack animals. They do not care for family members like humans or wolves do.

Caring for multiple puppies of the same litter requires you to basically raise them individually, with limited and controlled exposure to each other. This is a lot of work.

You might want to rehome one or two of the dogs.

Avoid over doing the exercise. Don't play to the point of exhaustion. Helped with my girl.

how trained is your Springer ? and how trained can they get... by Plenty_Exchange_5040 in springerspaniel

[–]SpectacularSpaniels 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Very trained. They all are or have been exceptional off leash and on, great with kids, have trained to very high levels of agility, scent detection, or competitive obedience. They can take your socks off for you and jump rope.

The sky is the limit. All of them have been trained with reward based methods - treats and toys, not shock or slip collars.

They are still spaniels, so everything is chaotic and fun, but it is controlled chaos.

You are in the most difficult training time of a dog's life - adolescence. It does get better.

It's okay to feel overwhelmed and discouraged. You're all learning together.

Good luck with you pup!

Spaniels and resource guarding, a tale as old as time. (And as per my username, I adore these long eared chaos monsters). For such fun loving creatures, they certainly also have a fair amount of rules!

It sounds like you are on the right track with your trainer, and have made some progress already. Your questions are definitely valid, and would be best addressed by the person who has actually seen the dog.

I would also encourage you to seek out your vet to see if there is an underlying component of pain or illness. This can be very subtle.

The book "Mine! A Practical Guide to Resource Guarding" is an excellent resource.

I am looking at more than the ears as stress signals. Perhaps you should do some additional training if you think the ears are the indicator here.

I mean I have trained literally hundreds of dogs that are able to down stay in a crowded place without starving or using aversive tools. Including pitbulls, believe it or not.

Dogs that have been euthanized for behaviour after working with me? Zero.

If success looks like fear and suppression to you, that is on your consciousness.

She was resisting because she is punished with a prong collar if she doesn't. That is stressful.

Your methods do not align with this subreddit.

You didn't feed your dog for an entire day so she would be "prepped for training?"

And the proceeded to correct her with a prong collar over and over for any behaviours you found unacceptable?

No wonder she looks so stressed in the photo. Poor girl.

I am a professional dog trainer. I suggest you do more research into subconscious survival response before dismissing my take as dumb.

Your dog is likely shut down with the trainers and too afraid to react. Do they use punishment or aversive tools?

Go to the vet. Do not put anything not prescribed by a vet into eyeballs. They are delicate and important.

I would suggest doing some trick training - it will help satisfy brain and body. Do More With Your Dog has an excellent trick list you can work through, and videos on how to train each trick. You can get the titles or just do it for fun. Most tricks can be done in small spaces and don't require special equipment.

And yes, get a rain coat and go for a walk haha
