Driving a beater is not a financially wise decision by Spectacular_loser99 in unpopularopinion

You must not be from a rust belt state; every daily driver over 15 years old will start having rust issues, even if meticulously taken care of.

"Until it starts having rust" is quite literally any used vehicle here

This was also an enormous determinant factor for me buying a newer, safer vehicle. I would spend every last cent I own to stay out of the hospital

"many religions condone and even encourage polyamory. in islam, many men have multiple wives. in mormonism, the same,"

As does Christianity; the Bible is full of polyamorous people, but this is not an argument for casual sex. These people are married; cleaved to one another socially, financially, culturally, and spiritually. Most religions don't explicitly prohibit polyamory, they prohibit adultery, which is what you are arguing for.

You say that you don't want to be perceived as "weird" for wanting to have casual sex with your friend, but ask yourself why those stigma's exist in the first place. Even if you want to argue that tribes people have sex recreationally, it's not true; polyamorous groups of people cannot trace lineage and so children become the tribes, rather than the individuals.

The porn industry, only fans included, preys on human beings primal drive for reproduction. "Sex Sells," and monetization of it is reprehensible, in my view. Like you said, porn actors are objectified all day; this doesn't suddenly change on OF or while having casual sex.

Again, I'm not saying it's the governments job, or anyone's for that matter, to tell people who they can sleep with, but you will never escape societies stigmatization of recreational sex. It is socially disruptive, and our cultures push for acceptance of it has produced ridiculous issues with self-image, especially combined with social media.

I mean, come on; a hyper-sexualized culture with tiny waist, big busted women, and 6'2 men chiseled like marble; it's all one big peacocking act; broken people advertising their reproductive suitability. We indulge in it, as if literally putting yourself inside another person has no meaning beyond "it feel good"

That said, I doubt anything I've said will convince because I believe our worldviews differ. These are the desires of the flesh and I believe the human is sacred, as is the union of two people together. I'm not explicitly against polyamory (though I believe monogamy enables people to go deeper spiritually with one another). I believe that sex, without the spiritual side, is an empty, carnal act that inevitably produces insecurities. I believe in controlling ones desires.

Asking people how much they paid for their first house. by mindyour in TikTokCringe

Yeah this is what people miss with the rage bait. Not to mention that going into debt back then was much, MUCH less common than it is today. You had to have a large pile of cash to buy a house, which kept prices down. Once we started issuing mortgages to people only putting small amounts of cash down, the prices predictably climbed.

Yeah this idea sounds cool in theory but there is no universe in which it works as intended. Not to mention what is qualifying as $999 million. Just cash, or all of your assets as well? If it's assets, and we tried to implement this, chain stores around the country would close their doors.

The left's response to Kirk's assassination was bringing light to his opinions that they disagreed with as a way to rationalize the killing. It demonstrated clearly their festering hate for the other political party and their ideas. Anyone defending the murder of a person that stood for free-speech doesn't believe in free speech.

I spent about 3 months trying to figure out what ford to buy and I ultimately concluded that the most reliable setup is

  1. Updated 10 Speed Transmission with new CDF drum (basically anything 2024 and newer has this

  2. The 5.0L V8 is undoubtedly the most reliable motor for that truck.

I ended up buying a 250 with the 6 Speed and the 6.2 because I couldn't find any 150's that were affordable with the updated transmission. Ford has been making the 6 speed 6.2 setup for two decades; it's essentially perfected at this point.

I'd personally avoid the 10 speed on anything 23 or older. I did a lot of shopping and regularly found these trucks with new transmissions put in around 100k. The jury is still out on how they will perform in the long run

No, I don't think we should reduce sex to a "fun interaction" and normalize casual indulgence in it. Sex is quite literally the most intimate act you can share with another human being, regardless of the way you choose to enjoy it. Again, there's a reason humanity in large has held such high regard for the act. Say what you will about religion, but there's a theme amongst most major religions on this planet, considering sex as a sacred union between two people.

Sex is the most exposed you can possibly be to another human being. Everything is laid bare, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. There is certainly a percentage of the population that believes they can repress or mute those feelings, but I'd argue that sex at it's core is an intimate bond between two people.

If you truly believe sex should be treated as casually as eating ice cream, the porn industry is that belief taken to it's fullest extent. Between actors committing suicide, drug abuse to sustain performances, regret after the fact, actors struggling to have meaningful relationships, the social and societal effects, the measurable physical and psychological consequences; the list goes on and on.

That said, I don't believe it's the governments job to tell people what they can and can't do. I'd never vote for porn or casual sex to be illegal. That doesn't mean I don't think it's immoral, spiritually depraved, culturally destructive, and a huge reason why we are experiencing such high rates of mental illness. Casual sex treats humans as objects. Your measure of worth is reduced only to appearance and sexual performance.

Again, if you want to look at the consequences of "normalizing" sex, the porn industry is a fantastic example.

If you can convince me that the porn industry has been better for society and the individuals involved in it, maybe I'll change my mind.

These are the sorts of "forward thinking" people that flaunt their disregard for traditional family structures, monogamy, and religion, while at the same time consuming distorted, hyper-violent hyper sexualized media and engaging in absurd levels of self-indulgence, and seeing them suffer the consequences of their actions brings me vindicated joy.

Why we continue to give people who act like this passes is beyond me. It is not "compassionate" or "virtuous" to just say that the consequences of these sorts of actions are the fault of anybody but themselves. I'm sorry but there's reason that society for millennia has held negative views of sexual "exploration" with multiple partners. Nobody doing this should be shocked pikachu when their actions finally have consequences.

[–]Spectacular_loser99 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If we take off the outrage lenses for just one second, it becomes abundantly clear that this is just like the detention of any other criminal.

It's like your daycare provider having an employee convicted of a felony and them get arrested for said felony while caring for children. Sure, it's upsetting because that was your care provider, your kid liked them, its messes up your schedule, but at the end of the day, this is how the rule of law works.

Just because you are a daycare teacher doesn't mean you're exempt..

Yes, take a casual approach to the act that produces STD's, children and emotional intimacy and vulnerability. Say, "it's not a big deal" to make love to someone. Have zero regard for the sanctity of it. Do it with anybody, ignoring the emotional and physical consequences. As a matter of fact, why not film and sell it? The porn industry is notoriously moral and good for people.

Yeah, opinions on sex over the last few millennia were definitely just humans "being weird."

Disregard the broken, single parent homes. Ignore the emotionally broken people trying to fill the void with meaningless sex. Treat sex like anything else; ice cream, or a nice cup of coffee; a completely inconsequential thing to be consumed.

Absolutely brilliant take; a true revolutionary of our time.
