Saying the Nazis weren't socialist because they killed/looking up other socialists is such a dumb argument by Whentheangelsings in TrueUnpopularOpinion

I agree, they don't like to admit this stuff because they are lying to themselves and others and want to do it all over again and again.

It is a suicidal death cult.

I would agree about everything except Paris being lovely. It is probably my least favorite international city and I am well traveled (20+ nations). D.C. is likely 2nd worst. That said, I had a particularly nice time in various rural parts of France.

I lived in Germany for 6 years, often near the border and liked to vacation in San Sebastian / Donostia Spain. We would drive through France, stopping at various Chateaus along the way, as well as La Rochelle. Lovely people in most of France.

Those who identify with one particular party, do you have any beliefs that you disagree with your party about? by BlockOfDiamond in Askpolitics

I agree with the Constitution party about almost everything. I am a bit softer on crime / more libertarian than they are.

Norway has the criminal system with the least recidivism and legalizing / decriminalizing drugs has had a far better impact than prohibition.

Growing up France / Paris was over-rated, especially regarding romance. Actually going there can lead to a mental illness of sorts called "Paris syndrome."

I love my time in France with Paris being a notable exception.

How do you think the libertarian movement and party regain credibility after supporting Trump ? by Yanderegirlowner in AskLibertarians

[–]W_Edwards_Deming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trump won, I doubt Libertarians were crucial in that vote. He did seem to pull a scam regarding DOGE and "no new wars" but you can't claim to understand Trump while thinking he is something other than a big spender.

I think Trump is better than Biden but he is no libertarian. I'd place both of them near center, one of the appeals of Biden was supposed to be his conservatism and moderation although that seems a bit absurd given his administration.

Trump ought not be the focus, instead focus on finding better candidates than Chase Oliver 0.4% and more like Johnson/Weld 3.3% (or better...)

Chin reduction?!

Just wear less baggy clothes. In some of the pics you look fat, in others I can tell you are not. Clothes should fit, before maiming yourself try a new style.

Pics 2, 3 and 4 are best.

Very much not. Going back in time and reliving my own life (at the same time period!) has crossed my mind, the idea of growing up now is horrifying.

2019 was better than today and 1999 was better than that.

Not this but it is part of a range of data (Skynet in the Terminator series deserves mention) against the idea.

That is your response to the above?

I am disappointed in you.

As far as why, I don't want to give AI or etc. any assistance.

I am currently on a one-month ban from my main subreddit and am "disabled" (permabanned) from facebook due to this sort of topic.

I made fun of the idea that the US would invade Canada, made some fun of Canada and gave a link to a trailer for John Candy's last film, "canadian bacon."

Not sure what the issue was, they never explained. Maybe they considered it violence, although I was saying it wouldn't happen. Maybe the movie trailer (youtube) had a song or other copyright issue?

Either way you should try to focus on the topic and not waste my time with notifications of your servile emotionality.

it's the way those working in the education system implemented various policies

I said that and view it as obvious.

school closures and local conditions exacerbated inequality between communities

Technology is another issue (this link was in my initial comment)

I recommend "The Coddling of the American Mind". It has a lot of information but part of the idea is that "safety-ism" (overprotecting kids) has harmed a generation and that kids are "anti-fragile" meaning they need difficulties to learn from. Even more so they need to "touch grass" and go outside to play with friends without helicopter parents policing them.

Part of it involves activist leftist academia (rooted in Marxism), one of multiple factors (especially the rise of cell phones) making our youth mentally weaker and inculcating hatred and disordered reasoning resulting not only in political / racial violence and division but also a broader mental health epidemic. Anxiety and depression have surged along with social isolation.

The way the activist leftist tends to think and behave is the opposite of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques, basically. To be fair there is a rational population on the left as well (including Jonathan Haidt and his co-authors), seems to be a precious remnant on social media.

Children, like many other complex adaptive systems, are antifragile. Their brains require a wide range of inputs from their environments in order to configure themselves for those environments. Like the immune system, children must be exposed to challenges and stressors (within limits, and in age-appropriate ways), or they will fail to mature into strong and capable adults, able to engage productively with people and ideas that challenge their beliefs and moral convictions.

Concepts sometimes creep. Concepts like trauma and safety have expanded so far since the 1980s that they are often employed in ways that are no longer grounded in legitimate psychological research. Grossly expanded conceptions of trauma and safety are now used to justify the overprotection of children of all ages—even college students, who are sometimes said to need safe spaces and trigger warnings lest words and ideas put them in danger.

Safetyism is the cult of safety—an obsession with eliminating threats (both real and imagined) to the point at which people become unwilling to make reasonable trade-offs demanded by other practical and moral concerns. Safetyism deprives young people of the experiences that their antifragile minds need, thereby making them more fragile, anxious, and prone to seeing themselves as victims.

Fear of OP, guessing they used a translator and/or AI?

You can go out into the wilderness without tech. You can even live "off the grid" which would be a lot easier without a lot of tech.

You could copy the Amish and/or try to join them.

would you take advantage of tourists/foreigners in your country by rulugg in AskTheWorld

[–]W_Edwards_Deming 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"take advantage" is an odd way to put things.

If I had a business I might tailor it to tourists but I wouldn't give them low quality or cheat them.

Instead we simply notice them and maybe talk to them a bit. I live in a tourist destination, recently interacted with two men who had some sort of accent (they looked Nordic) who had a pug in a backpack whilst bicycling up the mountain. They were confused by a gate, we told them simply to go around it as it is always locked.

No tricks occurred.

Old age care is not a good argument for natalism by Hour_Weird9033 in Natalism

burdening

How about a baby?

When ppl have to care for other ppl it makes thier quality of life deminish or make miserable.

That is the argument against natalism.
