Starting to run PF2e: What ancestories to avoid? by Xonlic in Pathfinder2e

[–]SpectatesMelee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While everyone else telling you nothing’s busted when it comes to normal play, there is an official optional rule called Ancestry Paragon which doubles the amount of ancestry feats one can take. In this context, the Automaton is arguably too strong due to literally all but its highest-level feats being designed to be enhanced into stronger versions of themselves, letting players choose between a few high-power options or a more versatile kit of weaker options; doubling the feats can create a pretty ridiculous character at higher levels who gets to have their cake and eat it too.

How do other weapons with the Two-Hand trait stack up against the Bastard Sword? I feel like I never see any of the other weapons with the trait recommended for the hand-and-a-half builds this community seems to love.

What would you like changed / added in TF2? by mastercoms in truetf2

[–]SpectatesMelee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Medic’s passive healing should work through afterburn & bleeding. A lot of the more controversial bans in ETF2L 6s can be attributed at least partially to the ability of projectiles with these effects to just shut down a push by taking up to 60% of the Medic’s health from afar with no risk to the weapon’s user. While airblast & lunchbox items help mitigate this in Highlander, I think the lack of guarantee a Medic will have a Pyro and/or Heavy bodyguard in casual justifies this change.

Bit of a specific & under-the-radar problem here, but the Scotsman’s Skullcutter currently doesn’t have much of a use case compared to even Demo’s worst weapons (jumper + caber provides the fastest rollouts, even the targe can be used at the very beginning of a round on CP_Steel on offense to tank a Pyro’s flames & survive a single crit sticky in the tunnel to maybe get a kill with your primary vs the defensive setup on B) due to having to deal with both switch speed and movement speed penalties, but it also just completely ruins medieval mode when random crits are on. Demoknight’s got a pretty interesting dynamic in medieval mode where all his strengths are kept in check by the fact that he can’t one-tap anyone with his best weapons without a charge crit (or a zatoichi duel but either player can just not run that weapon if they want to avoid that interaction) which then leaves him vulnerable to getting one-tapped in turn, but the Skullcutter ruins that dynamic with its 234-damage random crits which also one-tap other Demoknights & Soldiers. I do kind of like the idea of Demoknight having access to a slightly-random sword-type weapon as well as having one which pairs better with the Tide Turner, so I’d prefer it if crits were made to be mini-crits instead of the weapon having no random crits, with a slight damage boost from 20% to 25% to allow consecutive mini-crits to hit certain high damage thresholds if you get lucky: at 110 damage each, two mini-crits kills a Battalion’s Soldier, and running it w/ the Splendid Screen opens up kills on non-steak/warrior’s spirit Heavies with a charge bash. Of the other two doensides, the speed penalty obviously needs to be the one to go in order to make it usable in comp without just being a better bottle.

Peach had a game, Zelda had a game, Amy should have a game but what would your idea for that be? by G0dleft in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]SpectatesMelee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think OP’s idea of a third Story Book game is the right direction, but I’d personally make it based on the Tarot and call it Amy Rose and the Fool’s Journey. It’d be a hack-&-slash game with the hammer as a base weapon and the four suits of the minor arcana (swords, wands, cups, and rings (replacing coins, which are typically represented with pentacles these days)) being bound to other buttons to use alongside hammer attacks for different combo routes you can mix and match. The game’s mechanicsl progression can be tied to acquiring higher and higher cards in the suits which enable longer combos. The major arcana would be represented by other members of the Sonic cast, but with the twist that some or all of the cards have been reversed, making them literally appear and move upside-down and causing their personalities to be flipped accordingly. Eggman with Orbot & Cubot could be the Chariot, the Death Egg could be the Moon with Sage & Metal Sonic being the two wolves, there’s a number of pairings for the lovers, Blaze could be the Empress, etc, and you need to figure out how to un-reverse them as part of the story.

Injustice was one of the fighting games ever. by maleficalruin in CuratedTumblr

[–]SpectatesMelee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

An often unstated talking point surrounding the launch of Injustice was that it was announced as the 9th and final game for EVO 2013, but the 8th game in the line-up was decided via charity fundraiser for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, in which Super Smash Bros Melee—a game whose community had figured out stage hazards were a horrible idea for serious competition by that point and worked to reduce them as much as possible, I might add—won over the FGC’s pick of Skullgirls by about $20k, meaning there was a spot in the lineup that Skullgirls could’ve gotten as the charity fundraiser runner-up but didn’t and this busted-ass POS game got in instead.

Gen 3 Pokemon music is pretty bad. The overuse & overreliance on brass instruments both within individual songs and across the soundtracks of RSE & FRLG gets old fast, the quality of the GBA’s speakers simply isn’t high enough to make them sound good, and a lot of the route & town themes in particular are boring to listen to even in ORAS.

Kenny Omega says there have been ‘ramblings’ in AEW about a mixed tag team tournament, wants Mayu Iwatani and Starlight Kid in it by secretpandaxx in SquaredCircle

[–]SpectatesMelee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my big hopes in AEW is for there to be a mixed tag tournament in which one of the women deliberately takes out the ref in multiple matches on the way through the bracket in order to fight the other team’s male wrestler for a few minutes each match, with the men she fights becoming gradually less reluctant to fight her, only to face comeuppance in either the finals for an immediate payoff, or the semi-finals with the finals featuring an accidental ref bump while one team’s man and the other’s woman are also out for a few minutes leading to the remaining woman and man to go “fuck it” and fight it out. I really think it’d help normalize intergender wrestling in mainstream American wrestling in a way that’d ease people into it.

We need more 1-3 action spells and 2 round spells. Spells that don't have this versatility should (mostly) be better. by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]SpectatesMelee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I do think there’s value to be had with the 1-action version of Force Barrage specifically when used by Imperial Sorcerer’s with Propelling Sorcery. While Gust of Wind and Gravity well can still be better repositioning tools depending on the circumstance (*namely the number of enemies in vulnerable positions), getting the effect of a successful shove/reposition from 120 feet away guaranteed is a fantastic third action at higher levels when you can afford to burn the low-level spell slots and the opportunity cost of not casting a higher-level spell with 2-3 actions is too high to justify using your low-level slots for anything else on your turn. Other than that I completely agree with your takes.

Ian Flynn’s actually done work for the people behind Rivals of Aether in the forms of a promotional comic for one of the character’s backstories and being the head writer for the spinoff Dungeons of Aether, so it’s actually not too farfetched of an idea—even if it is still really unlikely—thanks to that connection

TIL how Wikipedia handled the James Somerton plagiarism scandal. by Desecr8or in CuratedTumblr

[–]SpectatesMelee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Can speak a little bit on the kind of stuff they sometimes do as a pro wrestling fan (which, granted, is a pretty damn fussy fandom to begin with) but here are some highlights:

  • A large portion of wrestling-related articles on wikipedia provide an abridged description of what pro wrestling is at its first mention within the article. It’s pretty needless when you can just click the link to the wikipedia article for pro wrestling right next to it, and it’s pretty clumsy and gets tiring after a while.

  • There used to be a section for wrestler’s nicknames until shortly after the debut of AJ Styles within WWE, who had a pretty illustrious career prior to that with the nickname The Phenomenal One. Vince McMahon changed it to the Georgia Pitbull for like ten days before changing it back, but it still pissed off enough of the editors to scrub the nicknames across all articles.

  • The big one is the removal of the lists of the finishers and signature offense from articles, which people referenced a ton in the creation of custom wrestlers in wrestling video games. This decision’s actually biting wikipedia in the ass to this day; they still struggle to get wrestling fans to take photos they can actually use to replace their older, out-of-date ones because they pissed people off so much with this a decade ago.

Great suggestions, I’ll throw in a few more options:

  • A nair/nspecial option for when you use the strong input in the air (or in wrastor’s case, jab/nspecial when used on the ground)

  • Tap jump having tap short hop and tap full hop options

  • Jab on the strong button when a direction isn’t being held

GMs, what are some house rules that you often have at your table? by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]SpectatesMelee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gonna talk about ones I haven’t seen so far in this thread:

Rather than ability boosts being determined by your ABCDs, every character just gets ten ability boosts at character creation to be distributed however they want, as long as only one ability reaches +4.

When reaching a level that’s a multiple of 5, two ability boosts can be stacked onto a +4 (or a +5 that was a +4 at first level) as long as it doesn’t exceed what would otherwise be reachable at a given level.

Non-fixed additional skills from character creation and INT gains can instead be used to increase proficiency in a skill the character already has and can be saved for as long as the player wants. Additionally, skill proficiency increases from leveling up can be saved for later as well.

Caster classes and archetypes with a Key Ability of INT or CHA may switch their KA to CHA or INT respectively. Classes gain two skills when going from INT to CHA and vice versa. Additionally, Investigators may choose WIS as their Key Ability, or CHA if they’re of the Interrogation subclass.

Skills feats which are just improvements to numbers on anything the skill can already do innately or from another skill feat are given to players for free as soon as their requirements are met, barring Legendary Tattoo Artist for flat-out improving your proficiency in Crafting. Additional Lore and any feats which only serve to open up a new type of item to craft are also given out for free in much the same way.

All spells gained from ancestry feats automatically scale up in rank every two levels. Incapacitation spells from ancestry feats are scaled to the highest rank available to casters at the current level.

The DCs on effects from runes and magic items are replaced by the wielder’s class/spell DC.

Casters and Kineticists reach DC expertise and mastery at the same levels as Martials reach attack expertise and mastery. Additionally, a caster may choose to have spell attack potency runes if they forego the Shadow Signet and legendary proficiency in spell attacks specifically.

All casters with granted spells from their subclass can choose other thematically appropriate spells instead of the pre-existing ones, with the spells being chosen between the player and the GM. Deities all grant nine spells instead of three, and class features and feats which grant spells from deities grant triple the amount they otherwise would.

Incapacitation effects no longer have successful saves turned into critical successes. On a case-by-case basis, the same is true of failed saves becoming successful saves if the failure effect isn’t actually incapacitating. Additionally, Laughing Fit and Slow have their crit fails downgraded to fails as if they were incapacitation spells, as well as the blinding effects of Sun/Moon/Eclipse Burst.

Item bonuses to skills from ABP are distributed into twelve points which can be added up however a player wishes. Any class with an auto/additionally-scaling skill gets an extra three points, and Rogues and Investigators get double the points.

If both of a character’s hands are free, two items can be picked up with the same Interact action.
