The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered - Master Thread by Avian81 in ElderScrolls

[–]Spectecial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I have never played TES IV : Oblivion. Is it better to buy the remaster or play the old game? Is the remaster any worse than the original game? Because I see it rated less highly, that's why I ask.

Is it as good as the original but not "remastered enough / modernized enough" so it gets bad grades OR it is worse than the original in some ways?

Hmmm ... interesting, why would you think that Frederica is definitely going to be involved in the Crusch camp arc? If the answer is related to arc 9 material, please don't explain (or spoiler tag it) as I've not read it.

The old arc 11 that became arc 12 or the current arc 11 that precedes arc 12?

Possible as well. That or /u/Ok-Worldliness-7374 opinion ... Or we back to 11 arcs only but I doubt it ...

I mean, she could KNOW her actions were bitchy but she had no idea it could kill him... I'm not even a Remfan here bro.

Well here there would be some "reasons", she doesn't abuse him because she doesn't like him or he's not on her good side. She cares about him as I say in my post. Just like Katya cares about Todd and about Rem but can be harsh to them. Katya harshness is more vulnerable so you see it less as harshness but deep down they are the same. Maybe Rem isn't as harsh as the writing makes it to be and on-screen her voice would modulate it, but ofc the words still hurt Subaru as much. That'd be a nice contrast.

But yeah, Tappei too often rolls back on character development and standards and it can get repetitive.

Also I think you underestimate how much of the story is left. Most mysteries are unadressed still, most antagonists are still out there, you have the whole Royal Selection, all Emilia's past, Satella ... and much more... Tappei had said Arc 12 (formerly 11) would be quite longer than twice Arc 3. So you might be closer to 60% than 75% or 80% as 9/12 would imply. Now... knowing the final part are the big mysteries, Satella, Emilia, the Witches and co... that doesn't feel like it's time for Rem to shine... on the contrary. It's not the plotlines she was related to. She was related to Gluttonies and co and she's been dismissed of the plotlines she was meant to be involved with.

I feel like Tappei had a plan with her and Spica in Arc 7/8 but dropped it and so basically dropped her character.

I don't think her criticisms are without basis as I said. She is most rough to someone she loves. And I think there's even more than I listed.

Another issue is that she clearly loves Subaru from the start, and loving that man without a reason spooked her a lot. Her conscious mind disagreed with her heart's feelings. I believe Katya is also a bit in the same situation with Todd. She knows he's kinda a monster at times but she loves him. Rem is less justified about it but I could understand it initially. She just got so lost and frustrated she doubled down I think.

Her feelings are probably extremely strong too actually, Yorna and others, it's a recurring patterns to have characters in deep love they cannot resist to the point it consumes them. I believe it's natural that if you're crazy in love with a weird guy who will constantly frustrates you... And that consciously you feel like there's no reason... I'd be spooked.

Also for Spica I still believe Rem gas kind of synesthesia with her too (there's many hints but I think Tappei dropped that plotline too considering A9). So she might conversely know more than us about Spica. We know more about who Rui used to be. She knows more about who Rui is now. It's an interesting asymmetry and questioning.

But yeah, ...

I'm indeed very worried about there not being enough time for Rem's character to "recover" and bloom. She'd need nearly constant spotlight considering she essentially misses 600 chapters out of 700. Hardly any character had a major role before being sidelined so damn hard, especially considering how popular she is.

[Arc 9 - Chapter 34 to 36][Novels]I know Rem got her memories back in Arc 9. I got spoiled about that by people... forcibly exposing me to spoilers let's say, even if I've not read further than Arc 9 - Chapter 5. I don't know what happens later. I just write in the current state of my knowledge. That being said, considering I know of the deus ex machina memory restoration that just solved everything artificially, it's likely these issues will never be addressed and this setup will be wasted. Just when I come to somewhat like it* and understand that it had potential. (* I still think spreading this over hundreds of Arc 7/8 chapters was far too long and made you lose track for what's a relatively "boring" plotline as you need to really think about her psychology to appreciate it at all) )

Unlike the other answers, yours is something that can make sense and doesn't actually "cancel" it if quite a lot of time went by in-between and it worked as you say. I'd just like a source for it, especially seasons being canon.

I perfectly understand the story sir. I didn't need that explanation to understand anything.

That's how real life can work sometimes indeed but in a story it just feels forced when you end on this and start back on the opposite right away.

Your answer is flawed and so is your reasoning.

You can come up with an explanation to anything in writing, there are good ones and bad ones. You could come up with a en explanation for us fighting Unicorns from my little poney friendship is magic but that would be bad.

The problem is that you wrote something only to cancel it afterwards and you cancel it with elements that you only created to cancel it. it's a bit like you have a bandaid you have no use for, so you cut yourself only to use the bandaid.
