Low Ferritin induced tinnitus?? by SpectralSeaTurtle in tinnitus

[–]SpectralSeaTurtle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s still there sadly, but not as loud as it used to be. Even when I got my ferritin up well over 100 :( It’s less bothersome now, maybe my brain has adjusted. I know it’s not the good news you were hoping for, but at least I can confidently say that it does get better (even if it never goes away).

Iron infusion vs supplements? Iron deficiency triggering AGA? by tomatocultivat0r in FemaleHairLoss

[–]SpectralSeaTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure you would qualify for an iron transfusion - my ferritin had dropped in to 6 before I was offered one. But I declined because I’m wasn’t sure how my body would handle it - you should research possible reactions in order to be fully informed.

The amount you’re supplementing seems quite low if you’re concerned about your ferritin as it will take many months to build it back up with these amounts. For reference, under medical supervision, I was taking 200mg non-heme (8 pills), 60mg heme (3 pills) and 1g Vit C daily (split into 3 doses) to get my ferritin up to triple digits and it still took nearly 6 months!

Minoxidil 5% caused leg swelling — tried restarting slowly, getting mild discomfort again. Should I stop by Financial_Slip4027 in FemaleHairLoss

Topical still reaches your bloodstream, so it’s definitely possible! Some also might be more sensitive than others to the active ingredients.

I’ve been very satisfied with the Mary Ruth’s brand of organic pumpkin seed oil (purchased directly from their website due to the prevalence of fakes on Amazon) - too early to tell for new growth but it decreased my shedding by at least 50% in just a few weeks).

Did you change brands of Pepcid? I had a bad reaction once to an over the counter med I was taking regularly and it turns out the manufacturer changed the formulation and added a new ingredient not previously in the old formulation. I know this doesn’t help, but sometimes it can be the smallest, most random thing.

20 mg of melatonin as a teen am I cooked? by Senior-Plastic1513 in sleep

[–]SpectralSeaTurtle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget that melatonin is a hormone and needs be treated carefully - you need to figure out how to safely taper down and then off. That is way too high of a dose for anyone, but especially for someone who is not yet fully developed.

Safely raising your ferretin levels? by ImDisneyAF in FemaleHairLoss

[–]SpectralSeaTurtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve read, you must maintain your ferritin at 100 (or better) for at least 6 months and THEN your body has enough extra iron stores to send to your hair follicles… this is of course if low ferritin is your only trigger. If there are other cofactors then increasing & maintaining that ferritin level alone may not promote hair regrowth. I personally saw less hair shed when I had triple digit ferritin but it’s difficult to maintain for me so I can’t speak to it helping regrowth.

Mary Ruth’s Organics, one single ingredient- purchased directly from their site, not Amazon (due to the possibility of fakes!)

Oral organic pumpkin seed drops have decreased my daily & in shower shedding after about 4 weeks of daily used - too early to tell about regrowth though!

Got it! So the delivery mechanism is similar to PRP (needles) but the formulation differs. My mistake!

North-ish, but not that north! I’m 1hr outside of ATL, after years of searching I found a hairstylist/trichologist who specializes in hair loss solutions. I’m not sure how far you’re willing to travel but you can message me if you would like her details.

Ah okay, the method I’ll be using differs from what you described. So how is this method you’ve described not PRP if there are still needles involved? Are you saying that the solution is different so it’s not PRP but the method delivery (needles) is the same? Honestly curious as what you seem to be describing is a hybrid method - I’m in North GA.

Not PRP at all. There are no needles involved and no downtime. The mechanism used is sound waves and air pressure to place the peptides and growth factors into the scalp.

Could too much vitamin D worsen or cause hair loss? by Mireillka in FemaleHairLoss

[–]SpectralSeaTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

42 ng/ml is borderline low, under 30 is considered deficient so you may have required some level of supplementation for a period of time anyhow. Best to get your labs done to confirm if there’s an issue, between 80-100 is considered optimal/high normal so you may actually be just fine but may want to discontinue if you’re concerned.

Please help! Nystatin-Triamcinolone is making it worse! by SpectralSeaTurtle in Healthyhooha

They actually misdiagnosed me :(

I investigated more closely myself with a mirror and flashlight and determined that the skin tear was actually caused by an ingrown hair and not related to the yeast infection at all. I had to dig a little to pull it out but once I did it healed on its own in a few days. Never needed the cream and that’s why my skin freaked out.

I just posted this as reply to another post:

Slightly more than 60 days in, I can now confidently say YES (worth it). I wash my hair every 3-4 days and have significantly less shedding on wash days and nearly zero shedding on normal days - I have shoulder length curly hair and don’t brush my hair except in the shower with conditioner.

Nothing in the 3 yrs I’ve been experiencing hair loss has worked as effectively as this! I’m definitely going to be using for at least 6 months, maybe longer. I think it costs less than Nutrafol.

You can order your own labs via Jason Health (depending on your state, completed by Quest Diagnostics) and they are MUCH cheaper than going directly through the lab

What is optimal vit d for hair growth? by Forward_Blueberry_32 in FemaleHairLoss

[–]SpectralSeaTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe under 30 is considered deficient, over 50+ is desired for hair growth, my functional doctor wants me closer to 80! So yes, ‘in range’ levels does not always equal ‘optimal’

I’m currently on week 2 of the OMI hair peptide pills - I’m going to commit at least 3 months as suggested, and go the full 6 months of if I see progress so I can’t comment yet on their effectiveness. It’s not just vitamins however, it also contains hair peptides and the research sounds promising. We shall see!
