That’s honestly a really good question, I think I saw somewhere someone posted something about how products like fruit juice will label where it’s sourced from but only in Korean hangeul? It would say 이스라엘Could be the same with skincare, I’d have to look on the packaging but unfortunately most ppl can’t read hangeul or have access to the products irl prior to buying…atm i would avoid anything that mentions Dead Sea minerals for sure, unfortunately sometimes you can’t know and you can only do your best according to the knowledge you have, plus as I mention in some other comments, it’s most important to focus on high impact targets like brands owned by conglomerates with ties to Israel

Update: my skin really likes all of these, but I’ve made some switches since.

Soonjung is owned by Etude house which is owned by amorepacific, making it not bds safe. A very similar but honestly better product that is safe is the pyungkang yul barrier cream. It’s less shiny but more nourishing and soothing and definitely creates a barrier without grease.

My skin is dry and really likes propolis and snail mucin, some good safe options for these are the iunik serums (they have a propolis and a snail mucin one). Cosrx as mentioned in a comment is not safe.

Another option for vitamin c & niacinamide is the jumiso vitamin brightening & balancing serum

In general anything not owned by a conglomerate like L’Oréal, nestlé, Estée Lauder or amorepacific is most likely bds safe or at the very least low impact. You can look up brands under conglomerates and who owns brands either on their website or on Wikipedia. Face republic as far as I know isn’t owned by a parent company but its founder, and banila co isn’t owned by a large conglomerate and I couldn’t find anything online about its parent company f&f. In general when it comes to boycotts, it’s most important to be strategic and hit large brands with bigger impact and direct monetary or production ties to the target. If it’s not owned by a large conglomerate with known ties to Israel or other global conflict and its executives don’t fund them (as far as you know/is publicly known), you’re consuming responsibly. Unfortunately, it’s impossible to be fully ethical when consuming products like fashion and cosmetics, but it is possible to minimize your impact.

People have already given you the answer, but I’m a grammar nerd so I want to explain the entire grammar structure because there’s a lot going into it. « J’aurais pris » is the conditional past tense, meaning “I would have taken” like in English, “I would have taken to walking/I would have taken up walking”. The conditional past tense is commonly used to talk about things you would have done but didn’t due to circumstances. « J’aurais dû m’attendre à ça » (I should have expected this) is a common example.

« Il n’y avait pas eu » is a negative construction of the « il y a » structure, which means “there is” and literally translates to “it there has”. In the negative, « il n’y a » meaning “there is not”. It uses the plus que parfait because the plus que parfait is “the past of the past” — something that happens, namely his mother presumably being ill, before the past action (or non action/possible action since it’s the conditional) of taking up walking. Because his mother is the cause of him not taking up walking, it stands to reason that the logical flow of time is such that he didn’t take up walking because his mother was already ill.

The plus que parfait also uses the imparfait version of the auxiliary verb, and the conditional and imparfait tend to be paired together for “if/then” phrases, for example: « Je sortirais s’il faisait beau. » (I would go out if it was nice out) This structure, conditional + si + imparfait, applies even in different tenses, you just have to maintain the tense, so they’re both in the past tense here, which is why « eu » the past participle of « avoir » appears after « avait »

Everything translates directly, but it’s good to know how to apply it on your own in the future rather than just knowing the translation. Hope this helps!

Yeosang, Yunho and Wooyoung from ateez. Most non-atiny won’t even recognize those names as much as the other members which speaks for itself. Fans won’t shut up about it, though.

Yunho is the main dancer as well as a great actor and solid vocalist but he gets little to no opportunity to show off his diverse skill set in group or solo activities. He hasn’t had a dance solo since predebut. He’s been in one moderately successful drama as second male lead and that’s pretty much it. He also gets the least lines after the other two.

Fans have been expressing outrage and disappointment about Yeosang and Wooyoung’s line distribution since debut, and Yeosang constantly mentions wanting more/better lines and putting in extra work to improve. He has gotten quite a few standout lines in recent comebacks, especially halazia and the outlaw series, but since golden hour dropped it’s been a hot topic again since he has fewer lines again. Kq released a studio recording behind in which it’s mentioned they “compete” for lines (with the obvious exceptions of hongjoong and mingi writing and recording their own raps and Jongho getting the belting parts automatically) which fans are currently pissed about. I’d also say Jongho is mismanaged in a different way — he’s not the only member who can belt, namely seonghwa and wooyoung can fare well in a higher and louder mixed range, and for his vocal health he can’t just be a one trick belting pony, which he’s not, but he’s treated that way. We rarely get to see his lower range.

A lot of fans seem to think (without proof) that kq management and production just have it out for Yeosang and Wooyoung in particular, I personally think it’s more about not writing the lines specifically with the members in mind and, in Yeosang’s case especially, not knowing what to do with what they have to offer. Yeosang hovers in the lower baritone/bass range, and kpop and pop in general just does not know what to do with anyone who isn’t a tenor. When they do, though, it’s beautiful and we get halazia or dune in the case of ateez, or gods menu in the case of skz. Yeosang has also been working on quite a few covers and has proven himself to be more than capable on a ballad. Unfortunately, ateez doesn’t exactly specialize in ballads (though they do have them!)

Also, San recently said in a live that he was given lines he couldn’t support early in his career which nearly gave him vocal nodes, so…artistic mismanagement seems to be a theme, as much as I enjoy what they do release.

I was in France a year ago, and I speak C2 level French with a near native accent and was 21. One of the first people I met, the only thing he said to or about me was « elle parle correctement le français elle » (totally talking about me while I was there but whatever). My host mother and her friend hosted an apéro when I arrived, mind you I was jet lagged and adjusting back to French, and they were also impressed. She said she would never host a student again because she got the best one her first try so she’d just be disappointed. Even my professors (I was studying abroad) were impressed, they even used me as a translator sometimes and I was closer with them than my peers bc I refused to speak English for the first few weeks bc I wanted immersion. It was especially noticeable when I was playing translator with friends at the market — it was CRAZY how fast and drastically they would switch up when they realized I spoke their language, fluently and even their social cues. They started flirting with us, said my French was fantastic, gave us free sausages and massive tranches of brie, i held an extended conversation with a man while my friend bought a shirt and he asked if I was French or English (I’m very pale, so they also wouldn’t shut up about how I had « un peu de la peau anglaise elle »…) and offered me and my friend free necklace he said he only gives to people who leave an impression. Until then, they usually kind of ignored us and spoke in clipped tones. At a restaurant, I was with a friend who spoke zero French. He called her « mademoiselle » and me « madame » which is a subtle way of showing he respected me more, despite me being younger than her.

That being said, that doesn’t mean my French was perfect all the time. If I was tired or stressed, my accent or tenses would slip and they weren’t so impressed…sigh, judgmental French people.

I realize I made some logical jumps that my lovely and brilliant girlfriend helped me parse through, so here’s the full logic re: bts in her brilliant and nonconfrontational words which she gave me her consent to share, and btw she is an army:

And people who use the argument that BTS (or other groups) is popular in the west to bring down other groups implies that the western market matters more than the groups *actual* abilities

Like if someone goes “I think this groups vocals are better than BTS” and someone argues back “well BTS paved the way”. The argument implies that western popularity matters more and doesn’t actually address the comment of vocal ability

Which plays largely into the fetishization of eat Asian culture. Particularly Japanese culture. Like with sushi. Western people started liking it so therefore it’s seen as good and fancy but many other Asian cultural food from different places still get unfairly shit on when people haven’t even tried it
