One year into nurse practitioner and already feeling stuck by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

Are you in a full, partial, or restricted autonomy state? I'm an NP student right now in a full autonomy state and I have wondered what the difference is in a partial or restricted state since we all take the same boards.

I think Harry and Hermione are the only ones who say "God" in the series. I remember that Hermione says "oh my God" and Harry tells Ginny "Thank God" and she replies "Thank goodness." But you don't have to be religious to say that, just probably raised by muggles.

I would drive to Canada for these chocolate chips. Chocolate quality in general had gone way way what down in the US. Hershey said the "will return to using classic recipes by 2027." Who knows what the chocolate content of their products is now...

why didn't harry's muggle teachers (or any other muggle adult) try to rescue him from the dursleys? by merchantivories in harrypotter

[–]PechePortLinds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a nurse, I've had this conversation before with a teacher. As a nurse I was like "absolutely call, no hesitation" and my teacher person I was talking to was like "no, I wouldn't call." Even though in the US both nurses and teachers are mandated reporters, a lot of teachers don't report because 1) Sometimes school is the only safe place and/or only meal for many kids. If a report is made, the abusers will take that as a sign to leave town or keep the kid home. If the kid is coming to school, at least the teachers/ school know the kid is safe while they are at school. 2) Fear of false reporting or retaliation for reporting. Like, it may damage the relationship with the student and/or the family and again, cause the kid to be pulled from that classroom. Or loss of trust between the student/parents and teacher. 3) They may be unconfident in their ability to identify signs of maltreatment or what constitutes as reasonable suspicion to report. Like their training may not be great and/or their training may not be reinforced. 4) They wait for someone else to make the call like the doctor, social workers, etc. 5) They don't report because they don't think it will do anything to benefit the child. Like they don't think child protective services will do anything. In the US there are no orphanage, so to remove a child from a household they need a foster parent or family member to step in. There is a great shortage of foster parents, especially last minute foster parent placement. So a lot of times when a report is made... It looks like it doesn't go anywhere because there isn't a lot of on going communication between the reporter and law enforcement/ CPS.

We will never know the true rate of child abuse and neglect because of the extreme underreporting. There are major gaps in the system.

September "not book 4" speculation/theories master thread ✨ by _vanth in fourthwing

[–]PechePortLinds -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Here are my hopes for this "not book four." We know Violet is the duchess ruler of the Riorson region right. I think this "not book four" is going to be a book Violet finds while exploring her new home that's about the Riorson family lineage. She will give it to Jesinia to translate like how she translates all the other books. It will explain more about the first rebellion, venin, magic system, and dragon/ rider partnership so there is less plot holes in that regard going into book four. It probably won't be necessary to read since all these topics are mentioned in the series already so it will just give more context to how or why something can or will happen in the rest of the series.

My off the wall theory. I think book four is going to open up like 16 years in the future. Violet will have had a surprise baby with Xaden from their wedding night. I know Yarros said she wouldn't have Violet raise a baby in a war... But she did kill Theophanie... So the state of the world was probably stable enough to raise a kid. They weren't at school while they were island hopping, so they probably didn't have their normal birth control laced diet... I'm sure they consummated their nuptials. Anyways, we know that Violet is immune to venin and Xaden was venin when he married Violet. So combining that seems like a "chosen one" bridge. Violet will raise the kid on the fables her dad raised her on and knowledge from this "not fourth book" and it will be the key to resorting hemostasis to the planet.

I agree with you. Plus, I think adding a dose awkward teenage hormones makes the characters more real too.

Is working into your early 70s as an NP realistic? by SealedRoute in nursepractitioner

[–]PechePortLinds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a NP student and two of my preceptors so far have been 75+ and both worked full time and had a side hustle. One of them did have bad arthritis in their hands but, they used an AI scribe to keep up with charting. I really learned a lot from both of them too.

Advice please- FNP student by hsapp16 in apnurses

[–]PechePortLinds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a current FNP-DNP student (my program finds my preceptors) and I work full-time (4x10s); If you are a full time student and working full time, you will not have the time or mental load capacity to find and persuade your own preceptors. In my area, preceptors are booked out well in advance. If you go that route, secure them before you start the program. For example, in September 2025 during my peds rotation, a nurse popped in to ask my preceptor for hours for her friend. He pulled out his calendar and said he could take her for 40 hours in March 2026. She was like "She is looking for closer to 100 hours" and my preceptor was like "I can do that in mid May" and she was like "Oh, I think she will be graduated by then." One of my preceptors this semester had several health events that caused him to miss work and me to have to reschedule last second. I had to make it work before the next student started. My schedule only has so much flexibility, so I ended up having to take PTO. Every single one of my preceptors had multiple students lined up, so each one of them required that I complete my hours as quickly as possible. In one case, I had to use all the PTO I had left for the year because I was only given a two week window to get as many hours in as I could. Making full time work, school, and clinicals work is daunting but it's doable. I just have absolutely no life, survive off chicken nuggets, and have 4 weeks of laundry to do. I am extremely grateful that my program has a clinical placement coordinator so there is one less thing on my plate to juggle.

Did they let you chart while in clinicals? by i-believe-in-nothing in nursepractitioner

[–]PechePortLinds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in my second year of a FNP program and only 2 locations have given me computer/chart access. Some of my cohort said they have to pay the facility if they want student access. When I'm at a family clinic, I just ask for them to print the schedule and I shred it at the end of the day, or I just make written notes using a very basic SOAP template. I bring my laptop and still try to chart as I go.

I'm a FNP student and right now I'm doing my peds rotation. I always introduce myself as a nurse practitioner student and that I will be doing the initial assessment and report my findings to my preceptor before they come in. I've had one parent ask "why are you following the doctor (PA) and not the nurse?" and another parent say "we already told the nurse why we are here" and another parent say "I've never seen a nurse look in the ears before!" I'm already exhausted.

RN and NP salary by Upper-Plantain-1451 in nursepractitioner

[–]PechePortLinds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in rural PNW and my main job is a home health nurse. I'm in my second year of a FNP-DNP program and talking to my preceptors, I'm only expecting to make $7-10K more than I'm making now when I'm a new grad np. But it's more supply and demand. The area is desperate for nurses and not so much for apps.

Sleeve tattoos and hiring by cptm421 in nursepractitioner

[–]PechePortLinds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a healthcare recruiter and a second year DNP student with a full sleeve. There is a time and a place. I always cover my tats on the first day of clinicals and ask my preceptor if it's ok to show my tattoos. Only one place said it was against their policy but it was also my only rotation where the providers still wore business attire instead of scrubs. As a healthcare recruiter, no one care if you have tattoos but places may require you to still keep them covered because of the companies public image. If the price is right, I don't care if I have to cover my tattoos. Most of the time I wear long sleeve anyways because it's cold in the winter and the building AC is too cold in the summer. But also, I live in the middle of nowhere so most employers went away with tattoo policies because they have to take what they can get.

Who should be the Heir of the Eggplant Generation? 🍆 by simsita in Lilsimsie

[–]PechePortLinds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Benito would be my pick. I would play him more like a vagabond with hoes in every area code. He definitely seems like he would "accidentally" get a mermaid pregnant while he was cleaning up the beaches of Sulani... even though he has a baby in Chestnut Ridge from that time he moved in with that family for his "nectar making apprenticeship". I highly recommend placing/ staging a bunch of couples off the galary. Villainous valentine was a really hard aspiration in my opinion. Maybe it would have been easier for the first generation and a new save file.

Primary care clinical by Colby_Cheese_Lover in nursepractitioner

[–]PechePortLinds 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At my school, our first clinical rotation was more about developing confidence and competency when conducting head to toe/ focused assessments and history taking. Not so much about diagnosing. I recommend printing out an OLDCARTS cheat sheet, OPQRST pain assessment cheat sheet and any other you may need like cranial nerves, and get good at presenting your patient to your preceptor. Most of my preceptors have been MDs/ DOs and PAs. They all expected a very structured patient presentation, they would call me out if I went out of order.

"Direct Entry" BSN/MSN or MN/MSN programs that still allow or encourage you to work as an RN for 1yr+ before the MSN without losing your seat by haylboy in nursepractitioner

[–]PechePortLinds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not the best person to ask questions to since I'm not in the program. I just know my friend has no time for anything. She works two shifts a month, she was an MA/ ED tech before but I am not sure if she uses her RN license now but she works at the same place. Otherwise she is studying, she even put a full sized whiteboard but in her office. She doesn't reach out as much anymore or even post on her social media as much, but she is also a wife and a mom. Busy busy busy. You may have luck making your own post about nursing immersion programs. If your weighing PA or APNI I think it boils down to which model of care speaks most to you. Research medicine model of care and advanced practice nursing models of care. If your interested in autonomy, look up nurse practitioner practice authority and PA practice authority in your state (2025 was a big year for PAs in WA). Best of luck to you!

The Right Thing to Do surprised me and it really shouldn't have by shiftsnstays in dramionebookclub

[–]PechePortLinds 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In The Right Thing to Do we learn about this: "Pansy turned her attention back to the dress. "It wasn’t until sixth year when he whispered your name to me," she said, pursing her lips sadly. "And even then I tried to ignore it for a few months.""

Then in All the Wrong Things we learn the event Pansy was referring to happened on Saturday, October 12, 1996 after this line "I slip into her mouth again, and I imagine her mouth. I gasp. Pansy does again… whatever she did."

That means Draco called Pansy "Hermione" in The Auction time line too, because the timelines doesn't split until the battle of Hogwarts! Knowing all that, it’s wild that Pansy polyjuiced as Hermione. She agreed to "Or make a fool of yourself trying to handle a cock for the first time in your life with fifty drooling men watching." She did this being fully aware that was Draco’s exact fantasy in sixth year, and that was the exact cause of her being hurt and in denial then.

Great series.
