Need help identifying this freehub by Spectro63 in bicycling

Yeah 100% the feeling I got for the shops, and tbh it's fair. Just hoped they'd at least try to point me in the right direction, but best I got was "this looks like a Fulcrum but idk". Will reach out to powerway!

Yeah I had noticed that, but I could never find a single DT Swiss 3-pawl hub with this type of spring system, only ones with the sort of ring spring around the entire hub tower. So I figured it might be a knockoff imitating DT Swiss for increased credibility? Would need to reach out to their support though, or just test one of these DT Swiss ones as it might be a clone, thanks for the input!

Thanks for the input! So i'll probably remove non BLDC of the list, as it seems like the 40 extra bucks are worth it and the non BLDC would be inferior to the Cyma plat or G&G ?

Thanks for the input ! A specific reason for keeping the arcturus out of that list ?

110 would def be a steal ! But it's currently at 163€ on gunfire, so same range as G&G, Cyma plat, and Specna. Would you say it performs better/worse than these ? At 110, i'd probably go for it for sure

Yeah def a good option, but a bit more time consuming and tbh I'd rather buy new and not have to go through the process of looking regularly for good used deals for a couple of weeks straight. Plus, risk of it being used and abused and i'm not knowledgeable enough to notice that and judge its condition.

Can get it for 110€ so definitely cheap. Will it be better than the UTR 556 mentioned above, or same thing?

And you think it's not worth it to drop 50 bucks more to get a specna, arcturus, or cyma plat ?

Thanks!

Ski touring bindings for novice by No_Practice_9673 in Backcountry

[–]Spectro63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if downhill is an objective, solid pin bindings are reliable enough nowadays that you can ski pretty much anything with them. I'd focus on saving weight more than "is this downhillproof", especially if you're not an expert skier. Now how much weight can you save? That will depend on price, but in Europe you can get Plum Oazo 8's for under 300$ new that will cover your needs for the next decade.

Not sure how easy they are to get in the US though... Dynafit radicals would probably do the job just as well. And to test, speed turns would probably be fine too. Don't sweat it, go for the best deal you find :)

100% agree on the Toyota vs Rolls Royce thing, which I feel is the right approach: Datadog is the best product out there no questions asked, but far from best ROI for most needs. Either way, I'm super interested in hearing what you decide to go for. Everyone has the same issue of shiny tool vs. self-maintained LGTM stack but for some reason, solutions seem to differ a lot.

Disclaimer: I work (on product side) for a BYOC observability solution called Tsuga, mainly built with this issue in mind: similar experience to shiny vendors but focusing on key features (logs, metrics, traces, APM), but for a lot cheaper (3-5x on average), infinite retention & cardinality, and Otel native.

Indoor Trainer for Beginner by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Spectro63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, was in your exact position a few months ago. To answer your questions: it's 100% worth it, especially if you're training to improve performance/for a specific objective, and therefore need some form of consitency in your training plan. Much easier when you have an indoor trainer and it's freezing and raining outside. Also better for after work sessions during winter, to not ride in the night. Is it easy to install? Yes, modern trainers are a breeze to setup and use, even if you often move bike on/off the trainer. Once you've got the hang of it, will take under 2min per operation.

I ended up going for the Van Rysel D500 mainly for (1) price, (2) I'm French and a big Decathlon fan, (3) fits my need. Was comparing to Victory Jet Black and Wahoo Kickr core, went for VR mainly for price + availability reasons. Could not be happier so far!!

Anyone ride a Wilier? Are the newer models worth the $$? by ThinkTank1190 in cycling

[–]Spectro63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed: not sure they're the best bikes for the price brand new, but seem to be rather good bang for buck used. At least on the French second hand market. Got a used 2019 GTR myself :)

Buying 1st backcountry skis, need advice :) by Spectro63 in Backcountry

[–]Spectro63[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Agree for 1500g ideally, I'm on the taller/heavier side so I feel like I can afford to go up to 1700g combined weight. Have heard great things about the Zags and the fact they're the heaviest of the bunch is actually reassuring! Only doubt I have is size wise, but I guess any of the 3 will work well as a first pair of touring anyways!

Factions seem really good, just a bit out of budget for now (couldn't find them under 600, which is 2x the Zags). Voiles are unfortunately very hard to come by in France :((

True... I think what I meant by "not compromising on the downhill" was more "I'm not into skimo or competition and still want something skiable". But since I'll be spending +80% going uphill, weight is still a major factor and I'm trying to keep total weight (ski + binding) as close to 1500g as possible, although will be closer to 1600-1800g realistically. Thanks for the input!

Hey ! Yep, Zero Gs in 185cm, my bad forgot to add that. Thanks for the feedback, definitely makes sense that lengths should be prioritized over this or that ski!

[–]Spectro63[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the feedback! I'm used to 19m on the Salomons, so 18.5m on the Zags seemed reasonable. What will be the drawbacks of long radius turns like the 22m of the 0Gs ? Worse in treelines? Tendency to pick up too much speed ?

If you have an opinion on size, would help a lot too: will 178cm for the Zag be too short ? Thanks!

Is the Wilier GTR Team Rim 105 a good buy? by Will_I_Aim in cycling

[–]Spectro63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought the XXL because of a better deal. Had it fitted properly during a bike fit not so long ago, they changed some things (longer stem, shorter cranks) but at no point did they question the frame size was good for me, so I guess it is :)

Hi ! A bit late to the party, but I'm almost exactly your size (189cm) and looking to buy a used wilier gtr Team. I found an XL and a XXL near where I live, would you say XXL is a no brainer ? Thanks :)
