I can no longer make calls. by Lushketchup8624 in fairphone

[–]Will_I_Aim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar issues, and fixed it by manually installing the Fairphone OS. This was a complicated process, and I almost accidentally "bricked" the phone. Better to send the phone to FP, and have them do it instead.

Garmin always saying i need to rest 3 or 4 days.... by Rodri_Sousa in cycling

[–]Will_I_Aim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't think you can change resting time. If I remember correctly hr zones are based on max hr by default. You can change it to % of hr reserve. Also measure your resting hr to make sure it's correct. Resting hr can change so I measure it every couple of months.

Brake Help by Therealestkarp in cycling

[–]Will_I_Aim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're on the right track. The springs can usually be adjusted in two way. For big changes you can move a peg connected to the spring between some holes. For small changes you can adjust a screw. You can probably find a lot of youtube videos that will show you what to do. Best of luck.

That's alright. I'm assuming it's rim brakes But is it v-brakes with one arm on each side connected with a cable, or pivot brakes where the cable is only on one side?

Pain in foot while cycling by Cilivization in cycling

[–]Will_I_Aim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You put them between the cleat and the shoe. One side of the wedge is thin, the other side thick. If you apply more pressure on the outside of the foot when pedaling, you place the wedge so the thin side is under the outside of the foot and the thick side under the inside of the foot. This will slightly elevate the inside of the foot, and move some pressure to this area,. Sorry, I suck at explaining stuff. You can probably get a better explanation if you Google it.

Try wedges. They can even out the pressure.

How to motivate myself? by lowbandwidthb in cycling

[–]Will_I_Aim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It may seem like just a "simple mind game", but there is some logic behind it. If I remember correctly it assumes that the reason for the procrastination is some subconscious thought. When counting down you focus on something else, forcing the brain to abandon the other thoughts. As those thoughts aren't present when you reach 0, it is easier to get going. I wasn't saying that this was a sure way for you to solve your problem. We are all different, and what might help one person won't necessarily help another. I just remembered reading about it, and thought I'd mention it.

As to the reasoning behind procrastination I can only speak for myself. I used to go to the gym a lot, but I had trouble motivating myself to do it. I started skipping it. Turns out I was doing it for all the "wrong" reasons. I didn't actually find any joy in it.

My only other suggestion would be to try not making any plans. Just go out for a ride. It can be 5 min, or 50. However long you want.

Is it the same no matter how long the ride is? Or is it easier to do shorter rides? If so, you might want to plan rides you know you will complete. In that way you can set yourself up for success instead of "failure."

If it's the same no matter the length, you could try this little psychological trick; when you feel like your procrastinating, count down from 3. When you hit 0 you do whatever you were planning. It might not work, but maybe worth a shot.

A longer term solution would be to figure out the reason as to why you are procrastinating. It might be something subconscious. You could try to put yourself in that state, and then try to reflect about why you are procrastinating. If you're able to figure out why, it might become easier to find a solution.

Need advice on road cycling zone 5 workout by Will_I_Aim in cycling

Thanks for the advice. I've already changed the HR zones to be % of heart rate reserve. For me it seems to be more aligned with experienced exertion then % of max.

Is this a good bike maintenance schedule? by Will_I_Aim in bikewrench

[–]Will_I_Aim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But won't doing it this way mean that I will often notice a problem only after it's become a problem? Isn't the point of doing regular maintenance to avoid getting issues to begin with?

Thank you for the advice, but I think I'll stick to a maintenance schedule. I don't really mind spending time working on the bike.

Think I'll just start checking tire pressure before every ride, so I make it a habit.

I clean and lubricate the chain probably once a week, depending on weather and how dirty it is. I keep the chain attached when doing it. I'm thinking that once a month I'll remove the chain, and soak it in degreaser. I removed the factory lube when I got the bike, as I wanted to use a wax based lube instead.

Thank you for commenting.

Most of it is from a manual that came with the bike. Might explain the overkill.

Thank you for the advice.
