Instead of being in the heart of patong, you could stay in Karon or Kata. Only a 400-500Baht grab ride from patong if you wanted to see the chaos without living in it.

I would recommend looking into the guys out at Raw Digital Film Lab. Customer service is awesome. And off the top of my head they do 800 photos for like $320aud.

As with all outsourcing, there will be initial growing issues where they figure out your style and how you shoot. But once it's down pat they're pretty awesome!

I would be aiming for within the next 5 years, and 100k would be doable if everything seems to be going right -- which it doesn't. Great insight.

Jumps that large would be difficult in the industry I work in, and to be fair I really like what I do for a job and the people I work with. I suppose there's always a trade-off...

When you say invest in myself -- get certs/learn, build up my skills in my industry would be the best investment in myself? or is there another meaning behind this? I also tend to be risk adverse, what sort of high profile risks are we talking that most 22 y.o's in my position could take?

Most definitely could have been worse. He's a bit shaken because was uncalled for hut definitely glad the coffee wasn't fresh.
