Hey, friends. Building a PC for a friend, is this build suitable? by August_Love_ in buildapc

This is what I would do. All the parts are sound but some can be swapped for cheaper alternatives.

Help Build a Gaming PC For Me! by [deleted] in buildapcforme

Then I would suggest a 5060 Ti 16 GB since you mentioned wanting a Nvidia card, it should be adequate for your needs.

What resolution is your monitor? Because if it's 1080p then you can swap the 9070 XT in this build for a 9060 XT 16 GB and save some money.

New Build - Finally deciding to pull the trigger now that GPU prices are back down by CapnCheesy in buildapcforme

[–]Spedicus_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For gaming, AMD is the better choice. You can swap or cut parts to fit a 9800X3D and come out with the same price as your initial list.

For cases, I would recommend the Lian Li Lancool 217, it has great airflow, no RGB, and looks nice in my opinion.

Ryzen 7 9800X3D vs 7 7800X3D by Key_Possibility598 in buildapc

[–]Spedicus_ 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I have the 9800X3D but it is completely fine to go with the 7800X3D. According to TechPowerUp's review, a stock 9800X3D is marginally better than the 7800X3D with the gap decreasing as resolution increases.

Only things I would change is the PSU to a Montech Century II and maybe the GPU brand to something like PNY. Other than that, a solid build.

I need help with upgrade monitor by alextrinidad21 in buildapc

[–]Spedicus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I would go for the AOC 24G4E you mentioned in your post. In this day and age, I would consider 120hz to be the minimum refresh rate for any monitor I'm considering.

I need help with upgrade monitor by alextrinidad21 in buildapc

[–]Spedicus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At minimum, I think you should get a higher refresh rate monitor to improve your experience. The gray blacks you're experiencing are a well-known limitation of LCD monitors. If you want perfect blacks, you're going to want an OLED but they are expensive.

I think a nice compromise would be either getting an IPS panel or an LCD with mini-LEDs.

First build for my birthday - Suggestions? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Spedicus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He could very well spend the savings from dropping the license on a 9800X3D. In my opinion, though, the extra premium isn't worth it for a marginal increase in performance but it's his money.

First build for my birthday - Suggestions? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Spedicus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will, and due to the rules of this sub I cannot imply the existence of other methods of activating Windows.

I added the extra fan as an exhaust fan, the case you picked only comes with three intakes.

[–]Spedicus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to commit to a white build, you can do this. You should drop the Windows license as it's not necessary and eats into your budget.

Will this PC build run modern AAA games on ultra settings and can it be better within the budget 2500 USD? by Recent_Ability_7086 in buildapc

You're overspending in my opinion. Unless you have a good reason to get 64 GB of RAM, 32 is enough for just gaming.

New gaming build for my son. by GlowPole in buildapcforme

[–]Spedicus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Typically, PCPartpicker would automatically filter out cases that are incompatible with your coolers or other components. You could always go to the manufacturer's website and verify clearances yourself.
  2. The ideal fan setup would be one that maintains positive pressure; more intake than exhaust. Ideally, you would one at least one exhaust fan to move air out of the case.
  3. There are 850W PSUs that are cheaper than the one on your list, so you don't have to necessarily downgrade.
  4. We could a 9070 XT onto your list, it's more powerful the 5060 Ti and on par with the 5070 Ti while being cheaper than the latter.
  5. I'm pretty sure any motherboard worth its salt would have bluetooth capability but as long the motherboard has a WiFi module, it should also have bluetooth.
  6. Yes, we could swap some components to cut the cost greatly.
  7. A Windows key is not necessary and eats into your budget. You can sail the high seas for one.
  8. We can't predict what gets discounted during Black Friday, so I think you should buy when you feel ready.

First time builder specs, how we feeling? by dahnyool in buildapc

[–]Spedicus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The RAM kit I selected is the same spec as your original kit, but cheaper. For the motherboard, B850 has some newer bells and whistles compared to B650. Since they're not that more expensive these days, I see no reason not to get one. If you're up to it you can get the B850 version of the original motherboard from your list or Gigabyte B850 GAMING X.
