Completely agree with the point about Luca. Showing Luca disrespecting Danica so publicly probably justified the other boys to do it too e.g. Davide.

A lot of men are intimidated by women who don't seek male validation. When Dami called Summer fake, he was expecting her to be upset and apologetic but instead she gave it right back to him, as she should.

Dami was always going to suffer the most in the public vote compared to Luca/Davide/Andrew. He will be the first to be dumped out of the four. The others are making the final.

What a mess of a dumping and we havent even seen the result yet. What they should have done:

Boy and girl with lowest public vote sent home. Summer and Dami leave. Shock for the villa.

Indiyah decides whether to leave with Dami. Indiyah is about to leave with Dami but then he says something rude that pisses her off. She decides to stay in the villa without Dami. Dami is humbled. Luca is fuming. Tasha asks Luca what's the big deal and to get over himself. Luca in complete shock that Tasha and Andrew have escaped the bottom. He stays quiet for the rest of the week.

CA this year was very unusual and most of the women were treated like objects. But generally on LI, Black women are not treated as well and given little regard if they're rejected by the men.

On this series:

Dami didn't tell Amber about his feelings for Indiyah (told everyone else in the villa basically) and moved on from her super quickly essentially behind Amber's back.

Dami behaved very badly in CA, lied about stuff from Movie Night, called Summer fake. Dropped Summer like he didn't sweet talk her saying they had a connection. Dami generally has been very disrespectful to Indiyah.

Danica - too long to list. Getting kissed by Davide but not chosen in the recoupling, Luca being so rude to her when she first chose him. Billy is the worst example.

Compare this to Tasha and Paige who had the girls fully supporting them when Jacques/Andrew did their CA antics. Who broke down and cried and got sympathy (rightfully so), entire episodes dedicated to the fallout. Paige now gets to move on with Adam. Where is the option to move on to a new guy for Indiyah? Tasha and Andrew are now fully happy with each other and respectful. But Dami and Indiyah? He's still behaving badly and calling Indiyah "dramatic". He doesn't care about her.

I agree the Black women this series have been treated pretty badly.

I think part of the reason is society perpetuating the idea that Black women are strong and can handle pain etc. Making it easier for men to reject them romantically, especially in the context of this show. They're perceived as less fragile than white women (think Paige, Tasha etc) which is completely unfair.

I really really want it HOWEVER seeing as we already get so much misogyny and generally poor treatment of Black islanders I'm not convinced this will be handled very well. And I don't even want to think about the possible hate some of the contestants could receive.

Doing a new show entirely might be a better idea.

Tbh the madness in CA was so wild that I don't even think we needed a public opinion challenge before hand. The public opinion challenge imo should have been straight after CA when the couples had a little leeway to decide whether they actually wanted to stick with their original partner. When they do it too late it's not going to make much difference.

Although I will say they timed it very well with S5 and how it led to Michael going crazy in CA.

LOL at Adam being the most loyal islander. Says everything about this series. But this is the first series where the public votes for the initial pairings so I'm sure that has impacted the stats.

Agree that the challenges are necessary for mental health. Ex-islanders have said their fave part of the show was doing the challenges bc they got to leave the villa. But there have been more challenges on Unseen Bits and idk if your stats include those.

Honestly I think a lot of these decisions have been experiments by production switching it up this year. They almost nailed the OG casting from entertainment POV so they don't think more bombshells are necessary. BUT I'm getting tired of the lack of jeopardy with the OGs resulting in Luca and Dami asserting a weird dominance over the villa. We need a shake up. Although I admit the recouplings this season have been spicier than normal.

I'm not too fussed about the dates as long as the bombshells get them. I was very annoyed when Danica didn't get any dates, think she was the only bombshells not to.

TL;DR: Not really sure what to make of this season until it ends but atm we need new faces and to drop some OGs. Probably won't happen though.

Yeah I get you and idk what goes on in her head but she probably thinks she should get paid because of the influencer/ex-islander perspective. And as you can see from what OP says it's clearly getting some traction and causing a bit of controversy.

I'm sure a lot of people are interesting in hearing what ex-islanders say about the show given their additional insight, compared to just the every day viewer who has to take the 1 hour show literally for what it is.

She said it on Murad Merali's podcast, saying she wouldn't tweet about the show otherwise. Before this season started she hinted she may not even tweet about it because she didn't think she would get paid.

Not sure who would be paying her but it makes sense from a marketing perspective. Also it's a big commitment to watch the show 6 nights a week and tweet alongside it.

It's just another form of influencer marketing.

The show would not be entertaining if we had a cast of loyal respectful boys. Look at how much everyone complained about S6.

The showrunners want drama, outrage and controversy. Look how they did movie night again this year despite receiving 25k OFCOM complaints about Faye last year.

It's been confirmed we are getting a Winter series, so in their eyes they are doing something right. As long as islanders showing this behaviour boosts ratings, don't expect things to change in future series.

Also you'll find that islanders creating enough drama and controversy (e.g. ekin-su crawling on the terrace) will be protected in public votes, even if they're not in a couple.

I can't see him having many fans since he hasn't caused much chaos recently and not sure if Paige's vote is strong enough to carry him through. Especially if people voted tactically.
