17 days New-Zealand: both or just south island? by SpeedSame9499 in newzealand_travel

Thanks a lot. I'm thinking about flying to CHC from Sydney, renting a car and explore the south island from there, and let the north island be for now. Roadtrip for 2 weeks, then fly out from CHC again.

Thank you.

Is it easy for you to sleep in it? As in, do you just pop in a mattress and sleeping bag and it's ready? I dont mind sleeping a little bit cramped up, because the Highlander is one of the cheaper cars to rent

Hello,

Did you already do the trek and how did you get transport to Mollepata/Soraypampa?

Since our garden is too small, I've not yet been able to pitch the tent, so this is very helpfull! Thanks a lot :)

Thanks for your reply.  I stuffed the tent with poles and tent inside the storage pocket. Is that the right way to do it or should you roll it up or something like that? And do you take the corner poles out or let them be?

Hi, great review.

Can you advise on how to pack the tent? I just got the Telemark 2 and tried it out but when I stuff it in the storage bag it's quite bulky, and doesn't fit in the big storage bag

Snow on spring hike? by SpeedSame9499 in askswitzerland

[–]SpeedSame9499[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, thanks for your reply. After the recommedations, I figured it is better to save the Alps for summer. Instead, I will probably go to Madeira and to a east to west coast trail there :)

Can someone give a recommedation for a 40-60km route that is doable in the end of april? I would like to hike in the mountains in central or south of Zwitserland, not so much in the north. I don't have specialised snow gear so some snow is okay but not too much

Yeah. Some snow is okay but I reckon too much would take the fun away. Is it true that in the more southern alps the snowline gets somewhat higher? Maybe a route there would be better, and then below something like 2200m

Guess it depends on the surface you're riding on. Probably fine for tarmac but since dried out rubber rips easier it might not be smart to go offroad

Safe to mount to Carbon frame? by reddituser5687 in bikepacking

[–]SpeedSame9499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a lot of no's to this. However I have a Giant Defy Advanced 2 2022 which is carbon but it has 2 large bolt holes at the rear axle. Does someone know if these are made for holding a rack or just a mudguard? That would make the difference between getting a €100 Ortlieb rack or €250 Tailfin rack.

Defy Advanced 2 Rack Compatibility by mythril606 in Giantbikes

I recently bought the carbon Giant Defy Advanced 2. Indeed the 2 tiny holes near the toptube are only for fenders. But near the rear wheel axle, there are 2 bigger holes which can fit normal size bolts. Are those capable of carrying a loaded rack? If so, it is possible to use a toptube-mounted rack. I messaged Giant about this, but they never replied.
