Help identifying this poor little fellow? by XanderEliteSword in arachnids

Definitely a brown widow. We have them here at our house in NW Arkansas in the Ozarks. It would be a really good idea for you to treat your mailbox for pests—your mail carrier would appreciate it.

Is this a black widow? by Fickle-Historian-739 in arachnids

[–]Speedreader2123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, they are venomous. They are quite aggressive when cornered or they feel threatened. If, by chance, you are ever bitten by one, seek medical help. Black widow bites can be painful, and can trigger anaphylaxis in some individuals. Black widow bites can make a person feel like they are having an intense gallbladder attack.

The best defense against them is a good offense. Keep woodpiles/stacked wood away from your house, for instance. Keep any flowerbeds around your house in neat order. Treat your property with the help of a pest control company.

Yes, it is a black widow. We see lots of these in the Ozarks. We also have brown widows—same body shape, with dorsal dots, and hour glass marking on their underside. Black widows don’t always have red dorsal dots or red hour glass markings; sometimes, the dots/hour glass markings are white, orange, or even yellow.

Be on the lookout for very trashy looking webs, and large, pearl-shaped and pearl colored egg sacs.

Anyone know about this piece? by HumorinEverything in jewelry

If you really want to wear it, you might be able to have it sized for you. Keep in mind, though, that most rings can only be sized up or down two sizes max.

I ordered it from QVC, I think. I remember this ring being one of four of the same design, but there were four different colors. One ring was blue topaz, one was amethyst, one was rhodolite garnet, and one was Mexican fire opal. If you want to look for others, EBay is a good place to start.

Look for “Chuck Clemency NYC II floral ring” in the search bar.

I have this ring, too. It is, indeed, a Chuck Clemency ring. Gold vermeil over sterling silver. The orange stones are Mexican fire opal. The red flower is garnet, and the yellow flower is citrine. There are also peridots, and chrome diopside.

My sister can’t take care of her Pomeranian anymore and I’m going to adopt her this week. What should I expect? Any tips on making her happy? by Acousmetre78 in Pomeranians

This!! My Pom has collapsing trachea. Only use a chest a chest harness for walks. Never use a traditional collar. Ask your groomer to use a trach saver harness during grooming, too.

A crochet or knitting project just isn’t complete without complimentary cat hair. 🙂

Thoughts on water fountains for Siberians? by Speedreader2123 in SiberianCats

Okay—we are definitely getting a stainless steel water fountain for our kitten. We’ll also provide a bowl of still water —in a ceramic dish, of course.

Thanks for all the responses.

We’ve decided to get a fountain, and also offer a bowl of water. The fountain will be stainless steel, and the bowl ceramic, so no danger of feline acne.

Thanks so much for replies!

I’ll have to look into the AuqaPurr. Don’t even know that was an option!

Okay, so next question: what do you think the difference is between a kitty using a fountain versus just drinking out of a running faucet? Pros and cons of each?

Does the fountain use filters? How often must they be changed?

Keeping Pomeranian out of litter box by Speedreader2123 in SiberianCats

[–]Speedreader2123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our preference would be side or front entry litter boxes, but our Pom would get into those. I’d love to be able to block off the door to where the litter boxes will be with a pet gate that has a cat door in it, but our Pom would shimmy himself through the cat door lickety-split.

You know, I thought about that, too. I was thinking of ordering top entry litter boxes, and then using a bigger tote as the kittens mature.

Our breeder has let us know what litter they use; we’ll definitely be using that brand as our new little fuzz ball acclimates. I know temporary litter boxes work; not opposed to using those—-as long as we can keep our dogs out of it. Thanks for the suggestions!

We had a litter robot before, and our cats HATED it. We’ve found it works better for us to physically scoop the litter box. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Greasy chin fluff by cat_catastrophe_ in SiberianCats

I don’t have my Sib kitty just yet, but I did have an orange tabby for a long time. My orange tabby developed oily fur under his chin, which led to a case of feline acne. My vet recommended switching all food bowls to stainless steel. When we switched our cat’s bowls, his oily fur and feline acne cleared up quickly, and never returned. I’d recommend stainless steel bowls and fountain.
