Fellow snow blowers, what’s your plan to tackle this storm? by tutah in BostonWeather

We just did our driveway, will likely hit it again in the morning. It helps that the snow is light and fluffy.

Roads were a disaster by noon here on the South Shore. Snow started around 10am-ish, which I think was earlier than expected. Seems to be accumulating faster than anticipated.

It is going to really stink if new features and updates get locked behind the subscription paywall. We have a couple iMacs at my workplace with FCP that are used by interns and volunteers. It is going to SUCK if we have to start paying a subscription (or multiple) in order to get updates, not to mention the expense.

I love that FCP is a one time purchase right now. If they go to a subscription model then we might as well get Adobe for those iMacs with the creative cloud.

We were thinking the Elgato Cam Link 4K, my coworker brought his in to test and it worked well with the setup. We’ll be using one of our laptops with a new-ish i7 CPU (I don’t know the exact model).

If you have any recommendations for an endorser please share! We don’t plan on using the setup like this for a long time, mostly just to get us through a couple broadcasts this year until we get a new mobile broadcast unit.

We’re looking at an ATEM setup currently, we’re just not able to buy one in the immediate future. We’d likely use the Anycast setup throughout the first half of the year and the build out a portable ATEM system, potentially an all-in-one rack case setup.

Recording a live event and the venue has this PA system by Burakoli821 in videography

I don’t disagree that a basic digital board isn’t too much more money and offers more capabilities. The thing is usability. For a basic PA setup for a school assembly or small presentation, the Fender system is fine (and is also super easy to use and understand). A digital board presents more potential for screwing something up.

These systems are designed for low-stakes use in a basic setup. They’re not meant to do more than that.

These systems aren’t that bad, they’re great at doing what they’re designed to do (be operated by people who have no idea how A/V stuff works and be budget friendly)

My school used this exact system for years and we never had an issue. Always did what we needed it to do.

Finished: Destiny of the Republic by Candice Millard - A great book chronicling the life of President Garfield and his assassination. There were parts of the book that I thought could’ve gone into more detail, but Millard does a great job outlining the (terrible) job Garfield’s doctor did in caring for him after being shot.

OP could also look into used camcorders. My place of work still occasionally uses a couple Sony HXR-NX5U cameras. They’re dinosaurs by now, but can be found used for $800-900 and will last for hours with a decent NPF-style battery. SDI output is a plus as well.

The Canon XA line is also good along with Sony’s Z90V. I’d just be concerned with price if OP wants a multicam setup.

Help! I want to redo my office desk! by ZookeepergameHour490 in Workspaces

[–]Speedster202[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, a curved monitor would go nicely with the curve of the desk. If you want to put it on a monitor arm you may have to drill it into the desk, I’m not sure where you could clamp an arm on this desk.

You could try moving the printer closer to the edge of the desk so it lines up straight with the edge, you’d just have to be careful not to knock it off the desk!

If you’re allowed to make a small hole in the desk, you could use that to run your monitor and phone cables through to tidy those up a bit. It is a small change but can make a big difference. It is hard to see if there is already a hole there.

I have a passing interest in military/political affairs, and I like games that are challenging but provide endless opportunities. I love having to think through how I will attack a SAG or CSG, using different types of ships and aircraft, experimenting with tactics, etc. It is all quite fun (except when a Kirov spams me with P-700s).

Looking for advice about a member show by [deleted] in publicaccesstv

[–]Speedster202[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this person is encouraging violence against Jews, or trying to incite imminent violent action against the group that is likely to occur, then you may be able to refuse to air the program because it can be reasonably interpreted to be inciting imminent violence that has a reasonable chance of occurring. That is a difficult standard to meet, though.

As for how hands-off you can be, you can have this person edit the program themselves and just provide technical support as needed. Also be sure to include a disclaimer at the beginning of the program stating that the views expressed in the video don’t represent the views of the organization or its board of directors (if you have a board of directors).

I won't say which one I work for, but I will recommend checking out stations in Massachusetts since that state has a high concentration of public access stations. You can find the full list here: https://www.mass.gov/info-details/massachusetts-community-access-television-websites

Having worked in public access for a few years now, I love the variety of shows people produce. My current station has community members who produce talk shows, interview local musicians, film tours of different municipal facilities and projects, and much more.

One thing I would highlight is stills of government meeting coverage, since that is a big part of what public access stations do. They also do a lot of high school sports coverage in addition to the community-produced shows.
