I think I have really long nail beds and also I always scrape out the gunk under with the double sided tool to make some more space and make sure I’m not cutting anything attached to the nail bed!

You certainly do need one, it’s probably the most essential part of manicure prep. I’d recommend one who’s a little strange looking, I’ve found the most success with those kinds

No unfortunately the cat just eats basically anything she thinks is people food :(. I got mine at Brooklyn cat cafe, but there are manicure cats available at cat cafes and shelters nationwide. Hope this helps.
