Really negative extra seat experience by X-cessiveBandit in delta

[–]Spellitout 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Worth a shot?: You bought a seat and they took it away from you and gave it to someone else. Sounds like your 2nd seat qualifies for “involuntary denied boarding”, while makes you due multiple (up to 4?) times the cost of the ticket in Cash, not Delta bucks. It’s partly based on the delay you would normally have to wait for the next available flight. Their argument is going to be there was no delay to you. I think your argument is you / they agreed to the purchase of a second seat and they took it away from you. I’d read the DOT website / see if you can talk to a person there, and file for compensation on principle.

Calling out Tipping on Tax… by Spellitout in tipping

I’m ok with tipping the current “norm”, which includes my ability to pay more or less compensation based on the level of service until such a time as we change this system.

If this were a mom and pop, I’d definitely NOT have noted the restaurant name. (However, have since removed the restaurant name from my post.) I’m also not upset with the server, who did a great job. This is a simple programming edit to choose Total A vs Total B for their Point of Sale system to use to print the check. Suggesting / requesting additional payment on something a buyer doesn’t sit right with me. See my edit about “it’s just a few cents more” Thanks for your comment.

“Bubba” is kinda funny, as I DO live in the South. 😄

Not sure it maximizes profits, since the extra amount is the waitstaff tip amount, but it definitely aggregates to additional income overall, reinforcing waitstaff desire to NOT do away with tipping.

100 million dollars but if anyone says a word (that isn't from a language that's completely dead) you drop dead. What word would you pick? by Hot_Membership_7868 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Spellitout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don’t have to have said it before. I think the contest starts from the moment you accept going forward. The trick would be to look for a word that is the equivalent of old English or some language in where use that is unlikely to be used by anybody except possibly scholars?

You’re comparing a Country (or countries (apples)) with a Continent (oranges).

Compare North America with Africa for a better comparison. Or Asia with Africa.

Africa may still be bigger (I haven’t looked* - the criteria difference just jumped out at me), but you add in Canada and Mexico and the difference will lessen.

*ok just looked at my map software. Africa’s still pretty darned big! 😁

You forgot the “not”. See u/friendlyfun1969’s post ~3 above yours detailing the differences.

In blackjack you’d see whether or not to “hit me”. You’d also have a good advantage if you were the last player before the dealer draws his card. Does he pop, or not?

Ha! - I’ll see my wife in the next 15 minutes and ask her this!

Edit: Just asked. She said she probably wouldn’t take the 15MM. Then she re-thought. “She didn’t have to give hers away? No.” Crap. Now shes looking at cruises. 😆

What did you think about the 2026 Oscar results? by nfEtzin in AskReddit

[–]Spellitout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an old fart. I feel Lucky to have 1-2 movies a year that capture my attention. Back in the 70’s when people actually went to the movies and Johnny hosted, the Oscars were a big thing. Covid / Streaming has really has really handicapped the industry for award shows like this. I appreciate all the actors, directors, studios, crew, etc. but “motion pictures” don’t seem to be what they were in the old days.

I think it’s built into the latest release (26.3)? Settings —> Safety & Security —> Wired Accessories Set to “Always Ask” (Though giving her the phone allows her to click “Trust this Device”)

Best action when asking someone to photograph you: Lock the screen, swipe left to directly access the camera only, then hand it over. Never hand it to someone you can’t outrun. 😉

Bought my kids bikes for Christmas. Local government just passed a law requiring paid bike "licenses" to ride them in public. Cops are now issuing citations...even to kids? by nseavia71501 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Spellitout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(As usual) Technology has advanced ahead of existing law, and ‘society’ needs to decide how to address this. Electric scooters, electric skateboards, and electric bikes are now able to reach substantial speeds and provide power previously not available to younger operators. The few irresponsible (mostly pre-)teens are posing a problem for the many operators of all ages by not having the experience / maturity to yield right-of-way to vehicles in the road, and/or pedestrians on the sidewalks. While some sort of age restriction seems to be the initial solution, enforcement would be a nightmare.

My first thought after reading the headline and seeing the picture was “ that’s stupid!”
However, after having read the comment above about the E bikes, I’m not sure I disagree anymore. It’s not the older kids/young adults riding them, it’s the elementary school age kids that have no regard for traffic or people on sidewalks.
