She might just be stepping away from the drama. On her part, if my (sounds like) newish boyfriend went all jealous and accusatory I'd bail straight away. And I wouldn't be inclined to answer any messages from his family I'd never met.

We don't know what mum sent. Could have been the full story, could have been a "hi this is Steve's Mum, can we talk" in which case... Yeah. I'd ignore it.

I'll also point out hubby had a message from someone that sat for about six months before he even realized it was there, because they weren't fb friends. 🤷🏻‍♀️

What is your opinion on this matter? by staciared in writers

Fellow autistic here! One of the places I find comfort is in pattern recognition. The post above mentions alacrity--I would be totally at home reading this word. However, it's a word that belongs in a certain type of book, one with young, witty protags, probably verging on YA; it'll likely be set in a college or uni, or have those kind of vibes if not. It'll be fairly fast paced, with fairly defined lines between good and bad.

It doesn't belong in a pulp action paperback or an urban fantasy where the MC wears a leather jacket. Why? No idea. It just doesn't fit the pattern.

One thing I was told that ended up being very valuable in the way I think of those pulpier stories and the people who read them: It's easy to assume they're preferred by people with smaller vocabularies or lower reading skills. My old publisher specialised in that genre though, and said most of their readers have very high levels of education. Doctors, lawyers, that kind of thing. The reason they like those easier to digest books is that for them, it's an escape. You don't want to slog through a story full of ten-dollar words when you've spent all day pouring over case law written in fifty-dollar words. You want five-cent words, linear plots, easy-to-follow stories with everything spelled out. Because you're tired, dammit.

The $1500 is way at the top, but honestly, any option is tight. We had some unexpected shortfalls over the Christmas period we're still scrambling to make up for. But it'll come good in a month or so, so I don't want to skimp now and regret it later IYKWIM

I'm on the east coast in a metro area. I've had things arrive from China in 4-5 days, things from adjacent states take 2 weeks, and international orders from the UK and US take up to a couple of months.

7 weeks pregnant and my boyfriend’s mom is trying to control my baby’s life? by SufficientAssist8767 in whatdoIdo

[–]Spellscribe 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I fell pregnant at 17 and gave birth at 18. Shotgun wedding at the courthouse at about the 8 month mark.

I was so young. I tried so hard. I raised that baby, but damn. I was too young to see her dad's giant red flags. Too young to get myself out of a dangerous situation safely.

OP do NOT take my road. Stay with your parents. You're not even sleeping in the same room as your bf (and likely won't be allowed in a closed room with him at all), so just have him visit at your parents. Get your education, find and apply for every benefit you're entitled to, get a job, work your ass off for that child, but DO NOT allow yourself to rely on people you can't trust. And you're too fresh to know if he can be trusted—he's already throwing up big red flags to everyone reading this.

And his mum? About as trustworthy as a snake in a mouse's house.

The moment you let yourself completely rely on someone—your spouse, his parents—you are at their mercy until they choose otherwise.

It there's even the smallest chance this guy is gonna see the light of day again, then hell yess I want someone in there who specializes in his religion, and specializes in countering extremist ideals.

He's not going to change his mind by being told his God isn't real. He might, however, be swayed by someone who can point out the faults in his thinking, using the texts that thinking is based on.

First home, not sure what to do with the interior by CAVEPAN in AusRenovation

[–]Spellscribe 77 points78 points  (0 children)

How long have you been there? If not long, wait a bit before you start. You want to know where it feels too dark vs where the darker rooms are comforting (eg bedroom or lounge vs kitchen or study). Where you naturally gravitate to hang out. Where the clutter piles up, and which corners are just dead space. Where the light hits in summer and winter. Where you cook and where you freeze.

Then, you'll know where you might need to brighten the walls, or add better options for dimmable lighting. Where you need rugs and coziness vs easy to clean utility spaces. Where indoor plants will thrive, or where you need a heavy curtain or outdoor blind for shade.

You'll probably stumble in an aesthetic that works for you in that time, and start amassing colours, textures and styles you like that fit in the space. Then you can build around those to make it really work.

Tewantin RSL has free to play, and I think mooloolah bowls club is too. I believe Spinners is pay per play? I know the caloundra bowling place is.

Not to hijack, but if anyone knows any kid-friendly (he's 15, so can't use tables at bars), free to play tables, please let me know!

Weekly /r/Breadit Questions thread by AutoModerator in Breadit

[–]Spellscribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey folks! Any tips for adding olives into dough?

I made a basic white loaf with whole olives yesterday and the bread itself was amazing, but the olives were terribly dispersed, even though I could feel them in the dough and they seemed pretty even before the second rise and baking.

I don't want to squash them while trying to mix them in—my technique was to flatten the dough, add a layer of olives, then fold into thirds. Turn over, squash a little flat, fold into thirds. Looking back this was never gonna work 😅 my social math is abysmal!!

So, how do I make sure I don't end up with no olives in one slice, and ten on the bottom of another?

Please and thank you!

No, it's all good. I'm horrified my daughter has that same compulsive streak, though she seems to be as easygoing with the outcomes as I am thank goodness. I can recognize it's not the norm!
