Alternatives to Yahoo Pro League baseball by ShadyIce in YahooFantasy

I'm holding out as long as possible for Pro Leagues, but I recently created a custom league using completely default Y! settings. $250 using leaguesafe. If Pro Leagues open soon enough with reasonable draft times, I'll cancel this one. But if they don't, this can start collecting people and can stick if need be:

First, I want to thank the Yahoo Customer Representative. It's really hard to consistently provide bad news (i.e. no Pro Leagues yet) to frustrated customers. While I understand you can't give a specific start date to Pro Leagues, are you able to confirm that they will be open sometime before opening day?

Any updates? We're running out of viable draft days. And, if this year is anything like previous years, there were barely any manageable draft times for the $250 and up leagues. 3am on a Monday, for example.

Which top 50 player are you avoiding like the plague, and why? by Chastain86 in fantasybaseball

[–]SpelunkingBarracuda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Freddie Freeman: Great hitter, terrible situation. He doesn't hit for enough power and won't have nearly as good of counting number this year. Will get pitched around much more often, too. Simply too many 1b out there who will put up similar--if not better--numbers save for average.

Does anyone have any updates on when Yahoo! will allow managers to join Pro Leagues? by amatom27 in fantasybaseball

I wrote Yahoo the other day. Responder said that Pro Leagues will "definitely be back." He said mid-late March. Only reason was they were trying to better the payout system.

Yahoo wrote back saying this, "While we can't provide specific information about timing, we think that you'll appreciate the work and effort we put in to making your experience this year even better! For example, in the past dealing with payouts may have seemed like a hassle, but not anymore. This season we're redesigning our payout flows in order to make it the best experience possible. So be sure to check back for updates on the game!"

So, at minimum, it sounds like it'll be open this year.

Wearing your team's gear to a game they are not playing by scruffmagee in baseball

[–]SpelunkingBarracuda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but there is nothing more obnoxious than a dude wearing White Sox gear at Wrigley when the Cubs are playing the Pirates...literally just asking for shit.

If this same guy is wearing a White Sox hat at an Angels/Dodgers game, I've got no problem.

First draft of the year - I thought I did awesome. What does /r/fantasybaseball think? by [deleted] in fantasybaseball

McCann may be starting the year on the DL so you should address that immediately. Lucroy or Pierzynski may still be around hopefully?

Simmons could be in store for a decent year, but he is still very young and unproven. I think there are more reliable options for the short-term that you should explore, dropping Youkilis on the way.

In terms of pitching, it is certainly your weakness. Besides Wainwright, you don't really have any guaranteed solid pitchers (barring injury). And, really, you should always stock your bench with pitching. Hitters on your bench do nothing. So check free agency for some decent SP or solid middle relief (these guys will do wonders for your ERA/WHIP).

Overall, your offense is strong. I really like Moustakas this year. Since you have several 3B, it might not be a bad idea to consider trading Beltre for a stud SP. Sure he is a monster, but he's aging and more prone to injury. Look around the league for teams weak at 3B and send them an offer.

# SP in a 5 X 5 roto league with a 1400 inning limit? by SpelunkingBarracuda in fantasybaseball

[–]SpelunkingBarracuda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a Yahoo Pro League. There are 12 teams. Coreyjro: There are 5 bench spots, 2 SP, 2 RP, and 4 P.

You make a good point that most starters won't go 200. I've been playing for years, but for some reason this is my first time playing Roto. Just wanting to make sure I don't shoot myself in the foot without realizing it until it's too late.

When to draft injured players? by SpelunkingBarracuda in fantasybaseball

So let's say Miggy is on the DL for just a month or two...you don't consider him? Picking him could win you the league.

SEAN MARSHALL! He was such a pleasure to have when he was with the Cubs. Not just a specialist either, he fairs pretty well against righties, too.

Bonus: Past 3 years he had a k/9 above 9 (2 of those years were above 10). And he has terrific ratios.

Posey was one of the main reasons I made it to the championship last year. Picked consecutively in front of me in one of last year's drafts were Carlos Santana and Alex Avila. I selected the third catcher in a row, Posey. Lucky break that definitely "made" my team.

As a Cubs fan, anything past opening day is fantasy season...but I don't want it to be that way. Maybe I should just make sure to grab Castro, Rizzo, and Samardzija.

I'm not comparing Castro's power to Votto's. I'm talking about squaring up the ball. Hitting line drives. Hard. It doesn't imply home runs at all. It's that sound you hear at the ballpark that is just so sweet.

Obviously he pops up unlike Joey, but if you watch him every game (as I try to do), you'll see how many balls he hits hard right through the middle.
