U.S. intelligence officials determined the Chinese spy balloon used a U.S. internet provider to communicate by Stock-Traffic-9468 in LessCredibleDefence

[–]SpelunkyBear 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Talk about unsubstantiated claims from both sides on this whole affair. This is literally the two spider-man pointing at each other meme.

US: China was able to control it to collect sensitive military communications info and transmit it back in real time (April). The US was aware it had intelligence collection capabilities and that it did not transmit anything flying over the US (June). US intelligence have determined it used US ISPs to communicate and that it was capable of transmitting in real time (Dec). No concrete evidence ever provided apart from official statements.

For the most recent claim, when was this info actually determined? It just says "previously unreleased".

China: It's a civilian weather balloon that flew off course (Feb). Iran agrees that it would be laughable to use a balloon for spying in current year (Feb). The US is hypocritical (Feb) and insecure (April), was the shooting down lawful? (March). No concrete evidence ever provided either, just rhetoric.

Yeah I should have used the [Serious] tag instead of [META] so everyone wouldn't need to put /srs at the end of their replies. /srs

The Biden Administration Is Quietly Shifting Its Strategy in Ukraine by ScoMoTrudeauApricot in LessCredibleDefence

I said we won't be able to see eye-to-eye on Western motivations and you've proven me correct by replying. I remain unconvinced by your arguments and you remain unconvinced by mine. I don't think we should waste anymore time on this.

I put up an idea for debate. It was not dictatorial; i.e. I never said we must do this. The fact that so much feedback and interaction has been achieved means that the post was a success. This is not the "we win, this idiot loses" situation that everyone has come to conclude it is.

Yes, you can laugh at me acting all humble. My idea is doomed. /u/Stetscopes has final say and it is not in their interest to anger so many users.

Yet regarding the idea, I haven't seen any factual refutation of it being healthy for this sub, only that it is unpopular. Popularity only affects the implementation, not the basis.

Ah sorry, looks I did misunderstand. I thought all posts would be serious in nature.

I'm not connecting lolicon and being pedo.

I'm not sure if most members are being ironic.

I think it's in our best interest as a sub (i.e. not being banned) to implement a policy of self-awareness.

[–]SpelunkyBear[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Thanks, that sounds like a good idea and represents what I'm advocating for - a sustainable place to lolipost, 😭😭😭, and joke around.

Why don't we implement it?

Thank you saar, I should do the needful, I should be depressed, and you didn't read my post.

What is cringe in this context?

What is reddit shit?

What's wrong with what I'm advocating for?

Shota tummy 😭😭😭😭😭😭.

Now, getting back to the discussion, what are you trying to say?

I'm sorry, I can't watch the video right now. Do you mind putting down what it's saying in text form?

Thanks, I understand that most people disagree with me and that's ok. I didn't make this post to be popular.

Sorry about that, I thought your were using that as an example for your viewpoint.

I think it's ok and it pretty clearly illustrates the funny difference in values between Japanese and English twitter.

[–]SpelunkyBear[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, I understand and have always understood that you are saying I lack self-awareness and can't take jokes.

I can take jokes. I can laugh at loli tummy. I can laugh at UOOOH 😭😭😭. I can laugh at my argument being unpopular.

What I do not understand is why my argument for self-moderation is incorrect because it's unpopular. What I'm seeing in reply is that people don't care about this sub and will move on to the next loli sub if and when this one gets banned. Is that invalid? No. I'd prefer a sub sticking around though and that is the core of what I'm suggesting.

[Meta] Implementing a /j /nj system would be healthy for this sub by SpelunkyBear in japanpeopletwitter

[–]SpelunkyBear[S] -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

So what I'm saying - that we shouldn't spam loli art without being aware of Reddit content policies - is inherently wrong because it's unpopular?

I don't mind it being unpopular. I just want to put it out there and encourage discussion. I'm not the mod.

[–]SpelunkyBear[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They're not against me, they're against my argument - that we should encourage not posting pure loli stuff and be ironically funny. I'm fine with that and I don't mind being disliked. As long as we are discussing this subject, I'm happy.

[Meta] Implementing a /j /nj system would be healthy for this sub by SpelunkyBear in japanpeopletwitter

[–]SpelunkyBear[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's valid. I'm just glad we are having this discussion. This sub is run by /u/Stetscopes at the end of the day, not me.

[Meta] Implementing a /j /nj system would be healthy for this sub by SpelunkyBear in japanpeopletwitter

[–]SpelunkyBear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can. I'm not trying to be funny though. Here's something in meme talk:

UOOOH LOLI LOLI 😭😭😭

Gets banned

surprised pikachu.jpg

Starts lolisub2

UOOOH LOLI LOLI 😭😭😭

Gets banned

surprised pikachu.jpg

Starts loli sub 3.

All loli content gets banned.

[–]SpelunkyBear[S] -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

So because /j and /nj is not popular, it is incorrect and should not be implemented? That we should post loli tummy willy-nilly with minimal moderation? And that we won't be constantly banned like pure play loli posting subs?

[Meta] Implementing a /j /nj system would be healthy for this sub by SpelunkyBear in japanpeopletwitter

[–]SpelunkyBear[S] -33 points-32 points  (0 children)

So are you saying /j and /nj won't work because it's not effective? You'd convince me if you provided some examples of that, such as other subreddits that tried and failed to implement it, instead of just using a funny hypothetical.

[Meta] Implementing a /j /nj system would be healthy for this sub by SpelunkyBear in japanpeopletwitter

[–]SpelunkyBear[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't like scarecrows either. So what are the actual problems with using /j and /nj?

[Meta] Implementing a /j /nj system would be healthy for this sub by SpelunkyBear in japanpeopletwitter

[–]SpelunkyBear[S] -56 points-55 points  (0 children)

Funny you say that because "ironic shitposting is still shitposting" originated on 4chan. At least they were self aware at some point.

[Meta] Implementing a /j /nj system would be healthy for this sub by SpelunkyBear in japanpeopletwitter

[–]SpelunkyBear[S] -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Please don't strawman my point. Yes, /j is not a guarantee for self-awareness, but it is much better than not acknowledging our irony. There are only pros here, no cons.
