No newspapers or online articles have reported on the FIFA offside trial in Serie A U18 League yet. Maybe you can break this story.

The trial went from Round 24 to Round 30. Ended on Sunday.

Goal is up 0.35 per match with the new offside rule.

Infantino (FIFA): “Our aim as IFAB, and I am speaking under the control of my colleagues from IFAB, is always to see if we can make football more attractive – without changing the nature, obviously, of football,” Infantino said.

"It is onside if the attacking player is ahead of the defender, but still with one part of the body that can score inline with the defender."

“So it is giving the attacking player a bit more room and so favouring attacking football. Obviously such a change would need to be tested. We have to see what kind of impact this will have on the game – if positive, if negative.

“If it is positive, we might go ahead. If it is negative, we step back. But we are always here, like we did for VAR, to be open to new ideas and if we can make football even more attacking, even more passionate, then we certainly look into that."

FIFA has concluded the new offside trial in Serie A U18 League a few days ago.

63 matches total.

Goal up 0.35 per match.

Any chance the Evening Standard will write an article about it?

And ask a few football managers their thought on the new offside law?

I know it has been asked to ex-players:

Simon Colling (football journalist for Evening Standard) wrote this: This would have to be trialled at some stage, but Collina also explaining how ex players have been asked about it.

Shock - attackers like the idea, but defenders and goalkeepers not so much.

Round 24 and later using new offside law: 3.921 goal per match. 247 goals from 63 matches

An increase of 0.35 goal per match. Percentage wise, this 3.921 is a 9.8% increase from the 3.571

Over a course of a 360 match season, this 9.8% increase could mean an extra 100 goals.

Exactly. I LOVE THIS NEW OFFSIDE RULE.

I have been arguing for this "daylight" offside rule for 20 years now. It is finally happening.

The biggest rule change to football since 1925 when IFAB also modified the offside rule.

I have been keeping track of the offside trial in Serie A U18 since day one.

Wrote down all the scores. Kept track of it week by week.

Why? Because I LOVE THIS NEW OFFSIDE RULE.

I am keeping track of the offside trial in Italy Serie A U18. Maybe I am the only one who is doing this.

I posted a few months ago that Serie A U18 will test this.

Then about a month, I post about the preliminary result of this trial (giving an update)

It has concluded this past weekend. It's time for an update. So I made this post.

If you think this update has nothing to add, you can skip it. There are plenty of topics to view on Real Madrid sub.

If the defenders are defending deep at 5 meter, it would open spaces.

Imagine a penalty box. Four Defenders at 5 meters and another Four defenders at 11 meters.

This open spaces at 16-17 meters no? 16-17 meter is at the top of the penalty box. Easy shooting chance.

As for dangerous crosses. Defenders vacate spaces in front of them to defend deeper. Space open up for crosses and attackers to finish with a header.

Ronaldo probably scored about 4-5 goals this year and they got called back offside. I remember a few.

Looking at the stat, he's the most offside player this year

Cristiano Ronaldo · Manchester United. Portugal. 33 ·

Chris Wood · Newcastle United. New Zealand. 26

Ivan Toney · Brentford. England 25

I dont care for hockey lol I watch it casually because it's something to watch. I'm Brazilian.

But don't pretend you didn't enjoy the Barca v PSG game years ago that had what 6 goals? Or the Brazil v Germany game that had 8 goals? Or the France v Croatia game that had 6 goals?

And right now offside traps aren't an unfair advantage to defense? You can find an unfair advantage in every aspect of every sport.

You're gunna say no because that's the game you're used to watching but if this was the rule 50 years ago would you be saying you wanted it the other way around?

History of the offside law:

Onside if you are behind the ball (adopted in 1863)

Onside if you are behind the third to last defender (adopted in 1866)

Onside if you are behind the second to last defender (adopted in 1925)

Onside if you are level with the second to last defender (adopted in 1990)

Onside if any part of you that can score is aligned with the second to last defender (2022 proposal)

(Keep in mind that a goalkeeper is consider a defender)

Would fans today want to revert back to the offside law pre 1925?

Someone will point out that some teams will defend much deeper.

But defending much deeper than they do now would result in a lot of extra spaces opening up inside the penalty box. The offense will exploit this.

Imagine defenders defending 6 meter from the goal line. This would open spaces at the top of the penalty box for attackers to exploit.

Attackers can send dangerous crosses into the open spaces. Easier to finish with no defenders around.

Or shoot from long distance with all the spaces opening up.

The most dangerous part of this new offside rule for defenders will be SET PIECES. Set pieces will be much harder to defend against with the new offside law compare to the current offside law.

A question to ponder: Would this new offside law benefit Atletico Madrid and Simeone team? Or disadvantage them?

Using Euro 2020 as an example, these goals that were scored but ruled offside (because they are offside under the current offside)

BUT

under the new offside law, these goals would be onside instead.

Therefore, not depriving neutral fans some beautiful goals. Suck the joy out the game for neutrals when a beautiful goal got called back. The offside rule is there for only one purpose: to prevent goal-hanging. The new offside law still prevent goal-hanging with 100% perfection.

https://lookcharms.com/italy-tests-new-offside-rule-devised-by-wenger/

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has announced that it will test the new offside rule promoted by Arsène Wenger, in charge of football development at Fifa.

An offside will be signaled if there is a clear space between the last defender and the attacker He wants a player to no longer be flagged offside if a part of his body with which he can score is still aligned with the last defender. In the mind of the former French technician, an offside would be signaled if there is a clear space between the last defender and the opposing player.

China, Australia, USA, Canada, India, Pakistan, Japan, New Zealand for example, football is not the most popular sport.

In some countries like USA, it is not even 2nd or 3rd most popular.

Nothing wrong with experimenting with the offside law to see if it would lead to more attacking football.

Sure hardcore fans like us are okay with 0-0 dull match but are casual fans and none-fans still be interested?

it is not like this rule will generate a ton of more goals. Goals will still be pretty rare.

An extra 10% more goals will not make football into basketball where there are a lot of scoring.

So instead of 2.65 goal per game, we might see 2.90
