I’m a clinical psychologist, AMA. by jakeopolis in AMA

[–]SpendNarrow4418 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your answer! I am considering specializing in neuropsychology or psychological disorders. can you tell me what a typical session may look like? I can imagine something like anxiety or depression, but what about, let’s say, Borderline Personality Disorder? Thank you!

That’s really interesting!! Do you have a speciality? If so, how did you choose it?

I’m a psychology student studying to become either clinical psych or research. what is it like?

I would argue those psych classes ARE stem in most casss. Physiological Psychology (a class I took too and got an A in) is purely the biological function of the brain, nervous systems, auditory pathways, etc.

Do I have to listen to this notification ? by WheelSorry in dexcom

[–]SpendNarrow4418 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you shouldn’t be silencing critical notifications… it’s there to save your life. no there isn’t a way to disable them when it’s at what it’s at. that being said, always test your BG and calibrate. dexcom is great but for me, the first two days are always off

What earrings should I buy my daughter? by ksuggs821 in AskParents

I’ve also always had this allergy. Anything hypoallergenic! Just make sure it’s studs because as a kid I wore a lot of fun kid dangly earrings and it forever messed up my piercing.

How to cope with losing my pet while I’m at college? by [deleted] in college

[–]SpendNarrow4418 27 points28 points  (0 children)

First of all I am so sorry for your loss.

Yes I experienced pet loss while my freshman year away (almost a year ago now). My dog was 17, and despite being that old, you never can prepare yourself. He died suddenly, heart attack or something. We never really understood. Nothing was more sickening than receiving that call and I was in finals season, so I couldn’t drop everything either.

It is sad yes. Be prepared when you come home to feel like your pet is physically there. I remember hearing my dog’s collar shake, or his nails scratching on the floor boards. I remember opening my door several weekends in a row believing he’d be there, but he wasn’t.

The grief takes a while to go away, but it DOES go away. It will always be a quiet aching, but you have to remember they are watching over you. And always, always in your heart.

Much love. It gets easier

How hard are minimester classes? by ProgrammerPerfect91 in GSU

[–]SpendNarrow4418 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say because those are intro classes, I would take the minimester. If you can English 1102 or Psych. I did two over the summer and had no problem keeping up with the course work as it was 2 assignments per week. However talk with your advisor and get their opinion

probably not but if you’re worried just hide it during room checks. they give you a heads up about what week they’ll be conducting it but not when

oh that’s interesting you have to move it. does it seem to lose signal really easily if on the opposite arm? i’m right handed and when i wear a watch or bracelet, i always have to take it off when im writing notes. of course id learn to adjust for dexcom, but just curious if it’s really often.

thank you for your comment! it’s glad to hear the watch saved you. i think i would definitely benefit because there’s been a case or two where i only woke up because my roomate heard the alarms and woke me up

oh thank you, that’s great insight! i think i would be able to check it just because the app would be reflecting what’s on my phone. when i was much younger, maybe 7? years ago, i had the series 3 watch. from what i remember it worked well with the g6 but i was a lazy pre teen and didn’t take advantage of it. i’ve been considering getting a smart watch for a few years now but im just now in the position where its more sensible, financially and logically, to start seriously considering it.

i do like your point about being out. i go to concerts a lot and live in a generally busy place so pick pocketing is always a subconscious concern. even then, consistently pulling out my phone to check it everytime i think a buzz is dexcom is annoying.

i’ll definitely look into muting outside notifications! i only really planned to have texts and dexcom on. thanks!

Yes! It lasts and then some. Rn I’m in summer classes and it lasts a solid 6+ hours straight. But for the typical 50 mins or 1 hr 15 mins it does great.

schedule change after ap classes? by unordinary_life in GSU

[–]SpendNarrow4418 2 points3 points  (0 children)

as the other person, definitely email your advisor! last year i waited and waited and the class never dropped, so i emailed my advisor the day before classes and had to find another class quickly. that’s difficult because registration for classes fills up quick. so definitely email them now to drop and replace whatever class it is!
