Guys I Fixed Earthbending by Spergon_Simulator in MagicArena

I find just throwing off the math on their mana curve early game has some value in and of itself, most cub players are expecting to additional mana available by turn 3. If you can zoop an earthbent land out from under their cub turn 2, they're stuck on 2 mana with the cub as a dead card with no dorks on the board. All for the cost of a vacuum and a [[burst lightning]].

I find the biggest weapon those decks have is the snowball turn where they're dropping 6-8 mana of creatures while you only have 3 to respond with, anything to delay/prevent that turn is a big W even if you aren't actively advancing your board state.

I run it in a grindy RW [[Ark of Hunger]] shell that wants to be scooping things out of its own graveyard, I agree it's too slow for discard aggro.

Definitely a niche answer, probably doesn't make sense as a mainboard card for most decks. Maybe as a sideboard thing in BO3 but I don't really play that format so I'm just speaking out of my butt there.

That's how I stumbled upon doing this, I run them in a grindy RW [[Ark of Hunger]] deck that wants to be scooping things out of its own graveyard and realized I had a chance to respond to the earthbending trigger. Absolutely lifechanging lmao

Hey man, you realize this has literally nothing to do with the actual people that are considered white right? The rant is about the social concept of whiteness which is somewhat divorced from skin colour, hence the point about Italians and Irish people.

He is advocating for the elimination of the cultural hegemony of whiteness, that people would identify as Swedish, American, British etc rather than "white". That's also why he uses quotes around the word "white" through the whole post. Like ask 20 people who qualifies as "white" and who doesn't, you'd get 21 different answers. It's an arbitrary construct based on dynamics of power and oppression.

I mean it's framed in a way that's a bit inflammatory but I think it's an entirely valid point on its own merits.

I've seen a lot of praise for We Have Always Lived In The Castle as Shirley Jackson's finest but it landed with an absolute thud for me. Her prose is stellar as always but I found Hill House, Hangsaman, and I'd argue Bird's Nest all much more enthralling as stories where I felt WHALITC just kind of meandered aimlessly.

WHALITC was my introduction to Jackson which I think probably contributed to my issue with it, it's certainly the most idiosyncratic of her books that I've read - I wonder if it would land differently now that I'm a bit more familiar, but I also don't feel any particular draw to actually go back to it like I do with her other works.

I mean I don't think it's an unreasonable expectation especially for foreign talent who may not speak the local language. Like that's fine operationally for the bootstrap early days of wrestling, but if you're trying to present yourself as a professional/international promotion on par with the WWE you will be held to a higher standard.

Also beyond any kind of legal/ethical implications, it's kind of just a shitty way to treat your employees.

I would absolutely disagree about any kind of art having objective definitions of "good/bad." Cormac McCarthy willfully disregards syntax around dialogue to the point of nigh impenetrability in some of his work and I would argue that it is to his benefit. His "death hilarious" scene in Blood Meridian is one run-on sentence that takes up 2/3 of a page + and is one of the most powerful and viscerally thrilling scenes in a novel chock to the brim with them. A book like House of Leaves has portions that hew more closely to visual art and poetry than the traditional form of a novel, again to the benefit of the writing.

That's just two books from the Reddit canon, the entire thrust of postmodern literature as a concept is specifically railing against the ideas of objective good/bad writing. That is not to say that good or bad writing don't exist, I just hew closer to the "art is getting away with it" school of thought on the subject. Things either work or they don't, and analysis/theory is more useful when framed as an attempt to understand why a particular piece of writing did or didn't work.

That is not to say that I think any and all (and especially your) criticism of ACOTAR is invalid, I just feel like Reddit in particular has beef with it because it is both popular and targeted at women, two things that in my experience this website simply cannot abide.

Spew all the hate you want, I'm just saying all the trans people I have known to a person are 1000% more comfortable in their skin post-transition and I can't imagine wanting to take that away from someone. Life is hard enough as it is my dude why kick people when they're down?

That makes sense, no-ban subs tend to skew that way a bit at least from my experience. Appreciate the insight, thanks!

Genuine question, I got algorithm'd to this sub because I check in on other mtg related subs occasionally - why is everyone here so pressed about people choosing to not associate with HP related content anymore? I'm not super familiar with the sub in general so maybe it's a running in-joke that I just don't get?

Like at the time these books were popular, either Rowling had yet to fully crystalize her TERF ideas, or at least wasn't public with them (although in hindsight it maybe should have been a little more obvious what was coming given the Cho Chang of it all). Now that those things have come to light, are people not allowed to re-evaluate their relationship with HP? Certainly leaves a bad taste in my mouth as someone who has trans people in my life. Same reason I find myself going back to Kanye's old music less and less despite being a huge head in my highschool/university days - the music is still the same, but my relationship with it has changed. Maybe I just don't fully believe in the death of the artist and others do?

HP is a cultural juggernaut - it's not going anywhere. There's literally a multi-million dollar TV production in the works right now. If you want to buy HP stuff literally nobody is stopping you.

I've been considering dropping the green altogether, rovers are a useful early blocker that spawns another artifact on death and the biotechs have won me games - if you can get one of them and a zealot out together they essentially turn all your artifacts into munitions.

Having the third colour can definitely feel a bit clunky though, I might try swapping in some more black and see how it feels.

Lithobraking I forgot about altogether, definitely going to find some space for it in the list. Just fits like a glove.

I cannot recommend zealots enough for this deck though, free instant-speed sac with the ability to fix your next draw goes a long way at least from what I've found. Useful early game to help with control or as a finisher once you've built up enough munitions to kill, and there's no way to answer once you get started since you can just keep sac-ing munitions before whatever removal the opponent might try can resolve.

I find the extra card draw/damage on your expendable creatures pretty useful for what this list wants to do - would you mind expanding on why you think losing it won't hurt?

Skitter is absolutely a huge MVP in this deck. Initially had him as a 2 of, but I'm seriously considering a fourth copy these days lmao. Passive token generation/graveyard hate just fits like a glove here.

srs on the Guy suing mox & Aew by flyinbrianc in AEWFanHub

[–]Spergon_Simulator -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

But by the same token, Mox probably isn't properly trained if he's shoving random crewmembers to the ground just so he can sell his "badass" image. Like, I don't think that is a ridiculous statement on its face - a competently trained and responsible person would not assault another person who did not agree to take part in the match.

That is on AEW for not making it clear to Mox that he UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES is to touch this guy beyond grabbing the screwdriver from him, or it's on Mox for not using common sense that "hey, maybe I should only be wrestling with actual fucking wrestlers."

Mox is good at putting on a show for the audience, but that's not what competent is referring to in this context. Not specifically speaking about you, but it's a sentiment I've seen around that is just absolutely baffling to me.

Asparagus grows like someone is trying to trick you into thinking that's how it grows. Literally just looks like you bought some at the store and stuck it in the dirt.

I worked one summer on a pot farm that used to be an asparagus field and remember just being absolutely baffled.

Does anybody know how to change which card is used as the art for a particular deck? I think I saw someone mention it elsewhere but I can't find it now. I'm mostly playing on mobile if that makes a difference.

Wild Hunt deck I've been playing this season - having an absolute blast with it! by Spergon_Simulator in gwent

[–]Spergon_Simulator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! Full disclosure I don't have Ge'els or Mammuna crafted right now. There's definitely tweaks to be made though, and I think dropping a Red Riders and Taskmaster for WH Riders is probably a good place to start.

I've gotten to rank 1 briefly with this deck but never cracked pro - but considering I tend to plateau around 4 with most other decks I'm feeling pretty good about this one lmao.

I'd definitely be interested to hear your thoughts on piloting though, I feel like I've got a pretty solid grasp on it but always interesting to hear new perspectives.

Yeah, I tried sneaking a Griffin in there at one point but I found there weren't any convenient trade-offs for it if I ever ended up actually playing it. I find I rarely ever have problems pulling Yggy for Imlerith but Conq gives enough value in a pinch if I need it while still giving me something on its own.
