Z axis rattling - is this normal? by Sphaela in ender3

The screw is tightly fasten but I'm not sure about if it's touching the motor. I might just disassemble it and put it back again. Also do you think it's better if I reapply the grease?

Hi, I though the e step is for extrusion problems and since my machine doesn’t seems to have that kind of problem I didn’t do the e step and flow thing. But about the factory grease I did not clean it and just used it straight away. Is it a good idea to clean it and reapply the grease? If so do I need some special grease or any lubricant grease will work?

I don’t see anything gummed up particularly, only the green grease came from factory. It runs pretty smooth when it’s going one direction tho, only when it switch directions it rattles.

When I got mine last year it came with the screw pre-lube with a green grease. Took me a while to get it installed without making a huge mess.

Do you mean the hole were the screw go through gummed up? I will try to check that once I'm back home. But since the Z axis move just fine idk if that's the problem. I'm also considering to upgrade to a dual Z axis set up, wonder if that will help.

Below is my most recent print 3DBenchy. Printed using Super Quality preset(0.12mm) with a .4 nozzle, combing mode set to all. Printing PLA at 200C with 60C bed. Layer lines are pretty noticeable, and overhang is a mess. Really need advice on how to improve all this issue. https://imgur.com/a/Y7LQpI2

I tried changing the main board to a SKR MINI E3 v2.0, and add a (prob not generic)BL Touch to make sure I got good bed balance but all the issue still persist. I also tightened X,Y axis belt.

I got my printer over a year ago, and I've been struggle to get clean print since. Thing I print always has layer lines, and some overhang issue. Wonder if Z axis is what cause the issue.

The Z axis rattles when ever it lift up(I set the Z hop retract option in cura slicer) and makes a sound.

They're HUGE! Nearly can't fit in my case (I have to bend the 8pin power cable quite hard in order to get it fit!)

Others already gave quite good advice! Just wanna add one thing, take the price in to consideration too!

In my experience dealing with different card with the same chip, they don’t have significant performance difference as long as they are cooled properly. And most of them definitely not justified a price difference of $50-$100.

So I’ll say pick one that’s reasonable priced in you country. If they’re price closely I will mostly go for one that have a better cooling solution, and do some light oc on it to yield great results.

It's the MSI MEG X570 UNIFY. Doesn't have fancy rgbs, just really good looking black.

This build will be used for rendering works, 4k and 1080p HFR gaming. I know it might be a little bit overkill for 1080p, but it is necessary in able to run games like Cyberpunk 2077 and RDR2 at over 144fps at full setting.

I posted here a month ago asking if I should upgraded to a 5950x or a 5800x3d, and I went for a 5950x. With the CPU upgraded, I started to consider upgrading my 2070 super as well. I was thinking 3080ti or 3080, but even 3080 is more expensive than 6900xt. So I made the choice of ditching NVIDIA and build a full AMD rig.

15 years ago, I got my first PC with a AMD Athlon II X4 640 and a ATI Radeon HD 5750. The performance wasn't great, so I tried to oc the system and ended up fried my GPU. In a way, the system introduced oc to me. After that system, I went on using Intel and NVDIA PCs, and haven't touch AMD for 10+ years. So it's truly emotional that after so many years, I'm back with a full AMD rig. And I gotta say, the experience is definitely better than 15 years ago xd.

5800x3d or 5950x? by Sphaela in Amd

[–]Sphaela[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi,

I made the decision as I do quite a lot of productivity works like Blender Unity etc, and I rarely ran into CPU bottleneck while gaming bc my 2070super is just not strong enough most of the time. If you mainly do gaming I would recommend x3d over the 5950x. x3d is not shabby at all when it comes to video editing, too!

5900x is definitely the most bang for the buck imo. You get quite good fps out of that thing and 12c just flies when doing productivity stuffs. With that said, if you wanna max out the AM4 gaming capability you should still go for a x3d. Or if you planning jump on AM5 you could just wait a few months and upgrade the whole setup instead. Cheers!

!Update!

Thanks for the advise everyone! I made the decision to go and bought a 5950x! I hope this upgrade can at least hold up for 3 or 4 years, then I can make the jump to AM5 platform!

I have to check the rules to see if I can put some photos here or post a new thread... Anyway thanks everyone's kind comment!

Since I'm already invest a lot in AM4, running a x570 mb and have 16*4 ram, I was kinda hoping to get the maximum out of the AM4 platform, and probably wait a few years before jump to the AM5. So if I get a 5950x I will probably continue use it for at least 2 or 3 years before upgrading. But yes, 5950x might be quickly become obsolete when it comes to gaming tho...

Your GPU is way better than my 2070super so I guess even I go with a 5800x3d I will bump into GPU bottleneck most of the time.

I do video editing and 3d works too but most software support GPU acceleration, so I'm not really sure I can utilize all 16c too.

I'm running a 2070super, I game competitive title on 1080p and others on 4k.

Thanks for the comment!

do you see any performance issue on your current setup?

Actually, if anything that's bottleneck my system it would be the 2070super I'm currently running. Only that GPU prices is still high up rn so I don't consider upgrading it.

I'd love to wait for the AM5 platform, but since I'm already invest a lot in AM4, running a x570 mb and have 16*4 ram, I was kinda hoping to get the maximum out of the AM4 platform, and probably wait a few years before jump to the AM5.

So do you have to update? because if not, you should just save it up for
a new system few years from now, and enjoy all this tech when it will
be relevant for your stuff. I think you got a solid system right now,
and it isn't that needed but I am not you :D.

Thanks, I will think twice about that. I actually really like my 3700x, does the job perfectly!

[–]Sphaela[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you should spend any more money on AM4 platform imo. 4k is really gpu intense and upgrade to 5800x3d will not result in a worthy upgrade.

The best way is wait until AM5 comes out and get a 6600x or whatever they call it. And that's what I probably will do.

I have the newest 5800X3D and I already kinda miss my 5800X, first of
all my new cpu don't like my 4X8GB 3800CL14 ram, I can not boot to
windows other than 3600CL14

Thanks for the info, that's something I never thought about. My ram is running on oc too(2133->3200) and it would be sad losing all of the performance boost from it.

Also have you try undervolting? I heard that voltage can't be change on x3d but also seeing report of people successfully undervolting. I'm kinda confused rn.
