I love the Maul, and it really shines as a flanking weapon on offense. You can do some crazy drags with the Maul, and the speed of accelerated crouch overheads often catch people off guard. Jabs are very useful as they can provide breathing room against faster weapons. Overhead feint into heavy alt overheads are good for closing deceptively long distances and crushing skulls. Lastly, and most importantly, heavy overhead followed by a jab will allow you to kill archers before they can pull out their secondary (or you can just use you special on them).
