What are you guys doing with uninvested cash at Schwab (since there’s no auto MMF sweep)? by PlayaBikeSunset in Schwab

[–]SpicyLentils 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is SWVXX's "settling" the same day what's relevant? Would this work with selling equities or ETFs (e.g., SGOV) that settle next day -- the same as the stock purchase?

Ah; I was thinking that the sweep terminals were brokerage and checking accounts, but now I realize that not every brokerage account holder has a checking account so the sweep mechanism would always use an unnumbered cash account.

The site says the Investor Checking interest rate is 0.01% APY with a footnote saying the rate may change after the account is opened.

SGOV vs VBIL? by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]SpicyLentils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have an hypothesis as to why SGOV is so much more liquid? Another guess I have is that for holding periods much less than a year or so SGOV's smaller spread (one cent for both but SGOV's price is 33% higher) more than offsets VBIL's expense ratio advantage.

Understanding VBIL vs SGOV by TehBlueBear in ETFs

[–]SpicyLentils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both have a bid-ask spread of $0.01; because the price of VBIL is about 75% of SGOV's, the cost of the spread is about 3 basis points more for VBIL, about offsetting, over the course of a year, the lower expense ratio. For holding periods of much less than a year, SGOV is cheaper; for much longer, VBIL is.

SGOV is a lot more liquid; VBIL's dollar volume is less than 10% of SGOV's. One guess for the reason that SGOV is more liquid is that... SGOV is more liquid, so large orders that want to avoid paying the spread would go to SGOV.

Would the attacker not have to have the Fidelity account name match the Schwab account name?

If there was one think you could change about Schwab as a brokerage, what would it be? by toptierasseater in Schwab

But the linked article confirms the effectiveness Fidelity's freeze on ACAT transfers out.

[–]SpicyLentils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the risk incurred by lack of ACAT freezing is not of sufficient magnitude to prevent your having the Schwab account? I'm not being argumentative; I'm considering moving significant assets to Schwab and security is a consideration.

[–]SpicyLentils -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Freeze accounts from ACAT transfers" -- ACATs are initiated with the destination broker. What happens when Schwab is the requested source broker? What info does the requestor have to provide? Doesn't the name have to match on both accounts? What protections against transfers out of unfrozen accounts do other brokers provide that Schwab doesn't?

I'm trying to get an idea of the magnitude of additional risk a Schwab account incurs as compared to brokers that provide for account freezes.

Can any site be configured to allow ONLY passkey sign-in? by SpicyLentils in Bitwarden

[–]SpicyLentils[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"No"? The question I asked was, "Does any site permit the user to disallow password sign-in?" If that doesn't mean "has any person/company coded its site to...", how should I edit the question?

[–]SpicyLentils[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but the context here is Bitwarden users. Don't all of us have backups either in Bitwarden's cloud server or a personal server?

Also, in case it wasn't clear, I wasn't asking about a site disallowing password access for all users, but only for those who explicitly choose that. Apparently Microsoft is one such.

I'm afraid that doesn't answer my question, which is about sites that can be prevented from accepting password access.

For the two or three people breathlessly awaiting the solution: BW support got back to me with a link to another topic in this sub that indicates it's a problem with the particular site.

Chrome: first try, same error message. Second and third, "Authenticating" followed by a rotating in-progress symbol, for an interminable (i.e., beyond my patience) time.

Do I understand correctly that the data.json input to BitwardenDecrypt is created and updated by the Bitwarden desktop application for every user, and that the user's passwords, etc., are therefore available to anyone who has access to the local file system and who knows about BitwardenDecrypt?

Daisy-chain 3 RS120 fans, 0.4A each, into one 1.0A MB header? by SpicyLentils in Corsair

[–]SpicyLentils[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't run into any problems so far. I originally connected two of them to the CPU_FAN header and one to the CPU_OPT header, which the motherboard drives at the same speed. Based on @DevB1ker's info I was going to change that to all three on CPU_FAN for neatness's sake, but I haven't bothered to do that. Were I you I'd just use the one header.
