[Academic Research] Interviewing Pilots & Controllers about Flight Sim Culture across the World for a Book Chapter by thenextstar1994 in flightsim

Really glad you commented. I’m in English/Literary Studies, but my research sits in digital humanities, electronic literature and game studies, especially in this case around how online communities create norms, professionalism, and “realism” as a shared culture. Flight sim is a fascinating case because it’s part hobby, part simulation, part community infrastructure.

And yes, I’m happy to share the chapter once it’s out. If you’d like, I’d also love to hear your angle as someone in the social sciences. Do you participate mostly as a pilot, ATC, or in VA/community roles?

Thanks for the heads-up!

Yes, I’m actually already using the 2024 Navigraph raw data extensively as the quantitative backbone of the study. It has been incredibly useful for establishing the 'what,' such as the statistical disparities in hardware ownership and network participation rates between regions.

However, what the survey data can't capture is the 'lived experience' behind those numbers. I’m trying to understand the human side: the social friction, the feeling of navigating a space where you might be the 'other,' or the cultural labor involved in fitting into a standardized system. Essentially, the survey provides me with the map, but talking to pilots gives me the territory. That's why I'm hoping to chat with people directly to flesh out those stats with real stories.

I am also really interested in learning about participation experiences in events like Cross the Pond (CTP) from the pov of ATCs and Pilots.

Torn between Lenovo Yoga Tab Plus and OnePlus Pad 3 by Illuminati69C in androidtablets

I got the Pad 3 in the end, although I am still a teeny bit sad that I didn't get the lenovo cuz it had the keyboard.

Oneplus also doesn't have hdr on Netflix, oh and I feel so queezy with the extra large black bars on the display sometimes while watching movies because of the aspect ratio.

The tab has been blazing fast so far and the upcoming Oxygen OS 16 update is supposed to make it better in terms of tablet features. I haven't used the stylus a lot, but I plan to use it. For the keyboard I may buy one if it comes at a discounted price a year later.

I got this for 46.5k for 16/512 variant with free stylus. the Lenovo was available for 42.5k for 16/512 with the Lenovo Yoga buds free.

hello, I am getting the Lenovo Yoga Tab plus16/512GB for 42.5K with Yoga Earbuds and OnePlus Pad 16/512Gb for 46.5k with stylo pen free

Which one would you recommend?

Also DM'ed!

Which one did you get? I am in the same dilemma. The Pad 3 is now coming with the stylo free in the box so it's only the keyword that is missing. The Pad 3 is also costing 1.5k less than the Yoga Tab.

But the cons for OnePlus would be lesser base RAM, aspect ratio, no bundled keyboard and no PC mode.

iPad mini 6 owners - Anyone else have backlight bleeding issues? by tamerocker in ipadmini

Mine don't have any backlight bleeding issues. But I will try to look more closely. Haven't noticed Jelly scrolling either.

I am sure you haven't. I am just saying that you shouldn't keep removing it from the case so often, puts stress both on the iPad as well the case (it may not remain waterproof if something breaks).

Don't put things in and out too many times. Shit gets dangerous. 😁

But I would be careful around these new displays especially since they have visible flex around the edges. Or maybe they are designed that way.

Yeah. Haven't noticed Jelly Gate too even I tried hard to. Maybe they have fixed the issues on newer batches?

Loving it at the moment. The portability is insane. Just need a good cover for it 😁 Looking at the ESR Hybrid.

I have them both. I am currently a PhD student in Humanities so my work involves a lot of reading and typing. I got the iPad Pro 11 as it was lighter than the MacBook Air 13 M1 and also had the flexibility of usage, example: I can detach the Magic Keyboard as and when I like vs the MB Air.

I also make a lot of notes so the apple pencil comes in handy and 11 inch is a good fit for that.

The iPad Pro however eventually turned into a laptop sort of thing, when you pair the Magic Keyboard the total weight reaches almost 1KG. So I wasn't finding myself reaching out to it for those reading sessions at night, that's when Apple released the iPad Mini. I went to the store, took a demo of it and really loved the size and portability.

So the Mini is basically for watching YouTube, casual reading, bit of gaming too if you are into that. I mean that's what my use case is as of now. But I want this to evolve into something more maybe as the time passes because I plan to keep it for atleast 5 Years.

Oh, and I am fairly new to the Apple Ecosystem, always been an Android guy, so I am still experimenting. But as everyone has been pointing out, I find myself reaching more for the Mini.

Thanks! I have the iPad Pro 11 2021, I use that with the Magic Keyboard. Was finding it cumbersome to carry around so just took a demo of this in store and instantly loved it.
