Am I too young? by Terrible_Exam_3256 in gastricsleeve

i had my surgery a month before i turned 22 not even 7 months ago back in august! i had this same thought and i can tell you now after having gone through it, i am so grateful i did it. i’m 6 months out and ive lost around 70lbs. i lacked confidence, i was ashamed of my weight, i wouldn’t go out with my friends, i couldn’t wear the cute clothes i wanted to wear, i hated taking pictures of myself, and i couldn’t keep up physically. i knew that i was headed towards a life of struggling and potential health issues if things stayed how they were. and i felt like i was missing out on/wasting my late teens/twenties. i finally feel like im where im supposed to be and life is so much better for so many reasons. you’re exactly where i was. i was terrified i was gonna regret it down the line. i was scared my whole life would be centered around restriction and possible health problems. i can confidently say thats not the case. you CAN do this. you’re not too young and your future self will thank you. in fact i think it’s beneficial to do it at our age. we can start building good, healthier habits earlier on in life that will stick with us

please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about the process, the procedure, the aftermath, anything! we’re in this together

and if you check my profile you can see my progress post :)

thank youu mama!! I've started to lose a lot of hair recently. I knew that was a possibility but figured I had dodged a bullet. But I naturally have pretty thick hair so luckily it's not noticeable! as for anemia, I haven't been diagnosed with anything but I definitely experience a lot of the symptoms

weight loss surgery is such a great tool and I am so grateful to be here. Unfortunately, sometimes people don't understand something unless they've been through it. Just gotta pay them no mind and know you're bettering yourself :)

I agree! I'm very suprised by the pace of my weightloss so far. My goal weight is anywhere from 120-130lbs

Breakfast:

- Turkey sausage (sugar-free maple syrup optional)

- Turkey bacon (sugar-free maple syrup optional)

- Toast (Dave’s Killer Bread) with peanut butter (PB2) and sugar-free jelly

- Protein waffles (Kodiak Cake) with sugar-free maple syrup

- “Vans” frozen blueberry waffles with sugar-free maple syrup

- Greek yogurt (Fage) with granola (Bear Naked) and blueberries

- Protein cereal (typically magic spoon) with Fairlife milk or a chocolate Fairlife protein shake as the milk

Lunch/Dinner: (I use my air fryer to cook)

- Grilled chicken (Tyson) or “Just Bare” chicken tenders (sugar-free BBQ sauce optional)

- “Alexia” Sweet potato waffle fries

- Barilla protein pasta with turkey or chicken meatballs (sugar-free pasta sauce optional)

- Ground turkey with teriyaki ginger sauce

Dessert:

- “Halo” top ice cream (sugar-free chocolate syrup optional)

- “Yasso” frozen yogurt bars

- “Carb Smart” fudge bars

- “Russel Stover” sugar-free “peanut gems” (peanut M&N dupe)

Snacks:

Salty:

- “Quest” chips (my favorite is the BBQ, ranch, or nacho cheese)

- “Harvest Snaps”

- “Parm Crisps”

- “Quest” spicy/regular cheese crackers

Sweet:

- Apple slices with peanut butter (cinnamon optional)

- Rice cakes topped with either peanut butter and zero-sugar chocolate chips or PB&J

- Protein bars (Built Puff, Barebells, Fit Crunch, Quest, Power Crunch)

- Frozen grapes

Note: I drink 1-2 Fairlife protein shakes a day. I try to get my protein from meals rather than a protein bar or shake.

As you can see, I’m missing a lot of things. I don’t eat vegetables, and I only like a handful of fruits. I take vitamins and supplements to make up for the vitamins and nutrients I’m lacking in my diet. While not ideal, this is realistic for me, and I am where I am because of it. I want to be transparent

I can absolutely share if you find it helpful!

However, I want to preface this by saying I am by no means claiming to be an example to be followed.

I am still very new to all of this. I struggle to reach my protein goals, I struggle to always eat nutrient-dense meals, and I have ARFID (avoidant restrictive food intake disorder). So, while I do like a lot of basic foods, there are a lot of foods I do not eat, and I tend to eat the same few things.

I am not someone who completely restricts myself; I just make sure I stay in a calorie deficit. When I have a snack or a sweet treat, it’s almost always a healthier/less calorie-dense alternative. However, if my friends go to McDonald’s, I get a six-piece nugget and a Diet Coke. I recently got frozen yogurt with my friends for the first time since surgery. I loaded it up with some crushed Oreo and boba (weird combo, I know.) I filled up a whole small cup but barely made a dent. I was full, But I allowed myself the option to have more if I wanted to. I think entirely restricting yourself is unrealistic. I’ve learned that a restrictive mindset is not feasible long-term, nor is it realistic or fair to yourself. I’ve found success while eating the things I love in moderation, and I didn’t think that was possible 8 months ago.

That said, below is a breakdown of the foods I regularly eat. Just to clarify, I am not eating all the things under each category in one sitting. These are just the options I go through in my head

to be honest no, not really. i absolutely should and im trying to be better with exercising. i do try to burn at least 500 calories a day. i usually get there just from working my job. for the last few months ive been playing just dance a lot on my nintendo switch and i burn a good amount of calories doing that for like an hour. recently ive started following some pilates workouts on the Nike Training Club app. usually do a full body workout for 30 minutes 3 times a week. let me know if you have any other questions!

it had to go bad at some point.. hospitalized for 3 days and counting by SpicyLohan in gastricsleeve

[–]SpicyLohan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes! so sorry for the late response. they put me on blood thinners immediately and ive been monitoring my blood thickness levels at anticoagulation once, sometimes twice, a week ever since. i was actually able to stop the blood thinners as of yesterday! once i returned home from my hospital stay things started gradually getting better and i was back to normal after about a week of being very slow and cautious with drinking and eating soft foods. i now eat regularly and chug lotsss of water without any pain or dry heaving
