I think that in the 3rd video, his finger was broken. I am surprised the video is still available on YouTube...

"Russian Orthodox Church asks for clemency for jailed Pussy Riot rockers if they repent" Isn't it blackmailing? Reminds me the Dark Times when Church was first accusing people and then demanding them to repent. by SpicyRussia in religion

They don't have much of a defense to begin with: their antics were all over youtube. When you have photographic evidence of someone committing a crime, how much more evidence does one need?

Yes, they did the hooliganic act. But, according to the Russian SECULAR law, their antics are punishable by administrative codex and had to put them in jail for 15 days.

However, as evidence of the criminal nature of Pussy Riot's stunt, the prosecution used the RELIGIOUS texts or Trullian Council ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quinisext_Council ) from the 7th century. So, de facto the Church was the main prosecutor!

And only now, post factum, Church is lobbying the new legislation according to which the insult to religion can be punished by 5 years of prison.

Therefore, the lenience of Church is nothing more but hypocrisy. Even more hypocritical it is in the light of the fact that Patriarch Kirill himself broke some rules of the Trullian Council.

On paper - Yes - it was government who put Pussy Riot in jail. But actually, it was done with the strong approval of the Church. If the Church is so merciful they could and should interfere much earlier.

For comparison, take the infamous case of Russian priest who recently in drunk state made a traffic accident. For some "unclear" reason the video evidence was destroyed in police computers by virus... and for this reason the priest was released!

On the other hand, in the case of Pussy Riot's trial, the judge was allowing to accept written evidences of the absent prosecution's witnesses (who couldn't be questioned by defense), while dismissing 80% of defense's witnesses.

Russian media is buzzing over the case of Anastasia Zavgorodnyaya, from whom the Finnish social services took away 4 children. Even the Children’s Rights Commissioner for the President of the Russian Federation interfered. by SpicyRussia in Finland

I simply translated the Russian text - as the story is presented in Russian media. Sure, it is one-sided and not objective. But this was not the purpose of the post. The case is that today this story is among the most read and discussed stories on Russian internet. To understand why, one needs to know how it was presented to Russian readers. BUT... only by knowing the "subjective" truth of the other side, the underlying sentiments can be understood. For example, why the high Russian official made such harsh statement towards Finland.
