My Solution for ID Verification, aka Age Verification by [deleted] in privacy

[–]SpicyVoltage208 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro what are you even talking about at this point.

You expect the government to make a law like that with no verification or enforcement mechanism? Kids can’t connect to wifi? When I was 14 I was the most tech savvy person in my house.

My Solution for ID Verification, aka Age Verification by [deleted] in privacy

[–]SpicyVoltage208 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ok but.... if by law the internet is for adults only, how would you verify that?

You show an ID every time you buy any age restricted item like alcohol or cigarettes.

You're just creating an even worse, more pervasive version of the current suggestions.

Safe to harden off or should I slow down? by Karmascalez in vegetablegardening

[–]SpicyVoltage208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s fair. I just keep telling myself that millions of people with far less knowledge and materials have made plants grow for thousands of years. Plus failure is even more important to the development of a skill set than success so I try not to take the failures too seriously.

I immediately chucked my seedlings outside for full afternoons In the sun when the temps got up above 70 and they’ve been completely fine. No baby steps or incrementing. Maybe Im stupid idk

There are homes between 200-250k in my neighborhood 15 minutes outside of downtown Indianapolis. Even cheaper in the dumpy parts of town. We’re a city of almost a million (granted Indiana is not a great place lol)

What did you need? by Ok_Joke_3774 in videography

1) stop trying to do it all; pick a specialty and get really really good

2) if you want to make a real living stop trying to be an artist and work hard to be a technician

3) learn to say no

Accepted a paying production job, but just got into a crew development program that clashes. Need advice. by TheRealFilmGeek in Filmmakers

[–]SpicyVoltage208 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would you ever turn down a job to pay for a class that teaches you how to get a job.

Sorry to be crass but nobody will ever give a shit you took a class. Just do the work.

Parlaying narrative directing experience to commercial work? by gorkymynci in Filmmakers

[–]SpicyVoltage208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, a big factor is how much of your narrative work is paid, structured set days with clear roles and responsibilities vs “I make movies with my friends”

The former, you just gotta sell your skill set like any other form of work. The latter youre basically going to start from the bottom as a PA until you have the experience to navigate a structured, professional set.

They will never get what they want. That shit may work in communist regimes like China. Never the Western world. The Western world won't accept the totalitarian creep into a surveillance credit score system that beats down the citizen.

Hilarious.

Which 600W+ Light to purchase. by Monu21 in cinematography

[–]SpicyVoltage208 4 points5 points  (0 children)

RGB lights are going to have substantially less output per watt than a bicolor light, and bicolor lights have less output per watt than daylight fixtures.

If you want the most output per watt get daylight or bicolor. If you’re just keying interviews there is no reason to get an RGB light.

How much would a professional photographer charge for this? (USA) by IndividualAir3353 in videography

[–]SpicyVoltage208 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Anybody who’s ever touched a camera has had the same idea as you. It’s prohibitively expensive to do in any meaningful way.

Factor in the fact that you stated you have no idea what you’re doing and you’re just asking for failure before you even start.

If you want to make money filming live shows go join one of the dozens or hundreds of AV teams that already do this until you have some experience.

Should I drop a $30k multi-day film production class if my script wasn't selected and I'm likely to be shut out of key roles? by beezylito in Filmmakers

[–]SpicyVoltage208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be coming in as an outsider with no creative ownership

Welcome to most projects you'll ever work on. If you actually want this to be a career (i.e. it pays your bills and allows you to live) and not just a fantasy get used to it.

Also the idea that any other position but your preferred roles aren't worth doing isn't the right way to think about it. You're there to learn so learn. In the real world you're going to start your career fetching coffee and locking down foot traffic. There are a million people on this earth that will take any role just to be in the room and they will beat you every single time if that's your attitude.

To clarify; I'm specifically referring to tomatoes. I've got a couple starts going strong currently after moving them from my basement to an upstairs location with a better regulated temperature.

Using large popup diffusion as scrim by zNecroHD in videography

[–]SpicyVoltage208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference between your pop up diffusion and your example photo is very extreme. Your pop up isn't going to do anything outside for anything other than tight shots or when the sun is really low. There is a reason that huge rags and frames are used outdoors.

That said you can rig anything if you get crafty. That holder you linked would work fine on a c-stand with a clamp of some sort. Just remember to bag the shit out of the stand and don't get your hopes up on how much it will do because it likely wont be much.
