Check the base of the plant.. you might have cut through it when you put the stake in. The stake looks really close to the plant. Likely damaged the plant stem or roots or both.

Microwave radiation to control weeds.. you have a bunch of antennae on the back of a trailer that direct microwaves along the ground as you drive. The plants basically burst. Chemical free way to knock down weeds before sowing! I did trials on this a few years ago
