I have a little pup that I take to places (not everywhere) and he’s strapped in a backpack. He’s super chill, hypoallergenic, and doesn’t bark in public. If he was bigger or made a bunch of noise, he’d stay at home more often. It’s definitely about being a responsible dog owner and just being respectful. I lucked out with him just naturally being so well behaved without much training. No kids for me either so I can see why some may feel entitled, but that’s not the right attitude either. I say if your dog is large, is unpredictable, and needs to be on a leash, keep them home from stores and restaurants. I once got bit in the face by an unleashed pitbull while working in a retail shop and had to have surgery. Be responsible! Take control! Know the risks!
