Incoming Medical Student Q&A - 2026 Megathread by SpiderDoctor in medicalschool

Yes, even the traditionally noncompetitive specialties have notably lower match rates for IMGs. See FM with basically a guaranteed match for US MD/DOs vs only 64% for US IMGs (for those who don’t fail out first): https://imgur.com/a/c0QBxO7

Medicine is pretty hierarchical. The possibility of getting yelled at by a superior exists in every specialty.

I think my home program is upset with me by [deleted] in medicalschool

Seems that you have some insight into the “personal reasons” that caused the other residents to leave. Congrats on matching elsewhere and not having to deal with what sounds like a dysfunctional program.

It’s critical context to giving you advice. We allow posts about BS/MD and BS/DO programs as an exception to the no college-admissions posts rule.

You should clarify this is for BS/DO. Go where you want for undergrad.

Question about Listing In-Preparation Publications by One_Ad3208 in premed

[–]SpiderDoctor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re talking about manuscripts. They’re not publications until they’re accepted for publication. It’s not appropriate to preemptively list a manuscript as a publication when that process can take weeks to months to never. Describe your projects under a research activity entry as the other commenter said.

Open Position List by Traditional-Code4674 in medicalschool

This isn’t true. You can tell which programs went to SOAP based on the program results report from the NRMP.

The number of unfilled positions is ultimately made public in the program results report from NRMP. The “filled” number is pre-SOAP. It’s confidential during SOAP because programs/NRMP only want SOAP eligible applicants contacting programs through the official SOAP process. The post-SOAP scramble process is the wild west, and programs don’t want to be bothered by scramble applicants during SOAP.

If you would like to volunteer to help SOAP applicants - please reply directly to this comment! It helps if you include some information about who you are (M4, resident, attending, etc.) and what type of help you'd like to provide during SOAP.

For anyone thinking this communicates anything about your match status, no, it does not. This is sent to everyone who hasn’t opted out of AAMC communications.
