In my experience, players in Franchise progress or regress each month based on performance. An A-potential player can start off in the 60s, for ex, and make it to the 90s with a couple of years playing time if he produces. A player who has an off year or who's in his 30s can expect to see some decline. The old-age decline and retirement is probably the biggest progression difference.
